Women access to and control of productive resources and decision making capacity improved\n\n1.1 Women's access to productive resources and decision making improved\n\n-The project provided training for 493 Trainers of Trainers on localised climate information while 7690 households were trained in climate smart agriculture and household gender transformation. In addition, 400 joint land ownership certificates bearing husband and wife names were issued. It has been noted that this has boosted productivity on such parcels of land and reduced conflicts related to land. \n\n-The project provided logistical support to partners to implement climate actions in the target districts through provision of 72 motorcycles, conducting national and district level capacity assessments for gender responsive climate change and training of 118 government and NGO staff in gender responsive climate change planning and budgeting. Additionally, the project supported training of climate negotiators and facilitated 5 person to attend climate change conferences.\n\n1.2 Household income and women's climate resilient livelihoods enhanced \n\n-Following a gender analysis carried out at the start of the project in West Nile and Karamoja, 105 trainers of trainers were trained in Gender Action Learning and these have in turn trained 1634 gender champions and benefited 7690 households. This has resulted in women taking prominent roles in production and benefit sharing especially in new promising value chains such as barley and mushrooms where 63.2% and 74.% of the farmers respectively were women.\n\n-In order to increase financial access to farmers, the project supported 262 Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLAs) through training in financial management, financial controls and resource mobilisation. The capacity built resulted in increased savings among the VSLAs ranging from Ugx 2million to 50million per year. The capacity built enabled 100 VSLAs to become credit compliant and 38 VSLAs were able access loans from Savings and Credit Institutions and Banks valued at over Ugx 200million in 2022 increasing to Ugx 700million by end of 2023. Most of the finances were reportedly to expand production and to access production technologies like hiring tractors. It was also reported that women only or women dominated groups had 44% more savings than male dominated groups indicating increased saving and financial access for women.\n\n1.3 Tenure Security for both men and women increased\n\n-A conflict analysis conducted in West Nile and Karamoja at the start of project identified land (ownership, tenure and access) as one of the main causes of conflicts including Sexual and Gender Based Violence especially as women do not own land, they contributed more in production and were less involved in marketing, sales and benefit sharing. To address this constraint the project trained 102 district staff and cultural leaders and supported acquisition of 400 Customary land titles 98% of which included both husband and wife's names. The main outcome has been that such joint owned land between husband and wife has seen adoption of sustainable land management practices such as tree planting and increased participation of women in farming practices and reduced land conflicts related to land boundaries as result of proper boundary demarcation and marking.\n\nResult 2: Household Income and climate resilient livelihood capacities of women improved in a gender responsive manner\n\n2.1. Sustainable market oriented gender responsive climate resilient agriculture production practices promoted \n\n-The project supported 303 Farmer Field Schools beyond the targeted 250 in key agronomic practices for selected value chains including seedbed preparation, timely planting, spacing, pest and disease management, post harvest management and community breeding programmes. Climate resilient technologies promoted included climate resilient, pest and disease resistant crop varieties, solar powered irrigation, community seed production and distribution, mushroom production, goat raring, apiculture, fodder improvement, Labour saving technologies, flexi-biogas systems and energy saving stoves. The project supported 15 community seed banks and seed multiplication centres on farmers gardens on 1949 acres that produced 438682Kg of seed (beans, barley, ground nuts, maize, sorghum, simsim and soya bean and 2000 bags of improved cassava cuttings. This has been reported to have improved farmer's productivity with for example Koboko District Farmers' Federation reporting receipt of ten times the amount of crop produce for bulking and marketing during 2024 compared to the project start in 2018. Similarly, Karamoja reported increase in production as a result of using improved seed. \n\n-12 community animal breeding programmes were promoted in West Nile benefiting 500households improving animal genetics, productivity and access to farmers particularly for chicken, goats and piggery. These enterprises have enabled farmers to earn alternative incomes to crops during drought periods enabling households to cope during climate stress periods. It was also reported that improved breeds such as crosses of local and Mubende goats in Nebbi had improved maturity period and enabled more earnings off season.\n\n2.2 Appropriate small scale Agricultural water management systems established for domestic and agricultural production\n\n-Eight solar powered irrigation systems were established in Adjumani, Moyo, Obongi,Zombo, Nebbi, Napak districts and 180 Households utilised the systems for all year round production. In addition six boreholes were drilled in West Nile and 3 in Karamoja and 3 rain water harvesting tanks and ten 50,000litre water harvesting tanks in Karamoja. With communities forming water committees and utilising this resource, it has increased volume of market products with groups earning an average of Ugx 6million from vegetables per season and hence providing extra income.\n\n2.3 Agro-based value chain developed and non-farm income generating opportunities in partnership with private sector promoted\n\n-The project supported a number of value chains aimed at boosting household incomes especially for women and youth. The selected value chains were consindered to have high potential for women economic empowerment. These included barley production to which 720 acres were established, cassava, passion fruits\n\n-77 females were trained and provided kits for mushrooming growing -a gender sensitive value chain that has large market potential and yet requires less labour and hence can easily be integrated with other farming activities.\n\nResult 3: Ecosystem adaptive and mitigation capacities enhanced\n\n-14 tree nurseries were supported and produced 282 000 seedlings that were planted by communities in selected watersheds, 157 artisans were trained in energy saving stoves and constructed 16 000 stoves reducing wood fuel consumption and green house emissions.\n\n-350 acres of woodlot energy plantation demonstrations were established and as the result of the learning, 200 000 indigenous tree seed lings were planted in community watersheds in West Nile and Karamoja.\n\n-80 Flexi bio-gas systems were established especially for elderly, disabled and other vulnerable groups. Besides providing energy, the bio-slurry produced is used as organic fertilizer for farming.\n\nThe woodlots, energy saving stoves and bio-gas systems are estimated to reduce 61 244 491 tones of carbon over a 20 year period.\n\n-The project supported integration of sustainable land management in farming such as soil and water conservation, planting fodder and protecting watersheds.\n\n-The project supported the Green Schools Initiative aimed at raising awareness and promoting climate initiatives in 387 schools across the country through print and digital media, debates and school initiatives. The initiative trained 100 journalists on climate change reporting, 96000 students participated in the initiative across 10 regions.",{"title":309,"description":311,"measure":313,"ascending":207},{"narrative":310},"Not applicable",{"narrative":312},"No indicator available - only a description of the activity results is
