DKT Myanmar continues to deliver strong results in turbulent time in Myanmar. During the year 2023 DKT Myanmar team proved their resilience and continued to operate despite challenging and ever changing operational conditions in Myanmar. The events that has played out in Myanmar over the past couple of years have impacted DKTs operations significantly and has changed the organizational business model. DKT has adapted and evolved as the leading private sector/social enterprise actor engaged in advancing SRHR issues in the country. Currency depreciation, the closure of public sector clinics, and supply chain challenges have stalled contraceptives distribution by other key UN and NGO actors. DKT remains the largest private sector commodity securing provider in Myanmar. In addition, DKT has managed to scale up SRHR education and promotional campaigns, health care provider training, sales, and distribution of quality contraceptives at an affordable price. DKT team continued to adapt the ways of working to operate and managed to distribute contraceptives and postabortion care products in more than 200 townships in Myanmar. It is estimated that the impact of DKT programme in 2023 is more than 375 000 averted unintended pregnancies more than 200 averted maternal deaths, more than 790 averted child deaths and more than 122 000 averted unsafe abortions. In 2023, DKT delivered more than 1 000 000 CYP (CYP estimated protection provided by family planning methods during one year). As of December 2023, there are an estimated more than 12 000 private sector outlets in Myanmar for SRHR products, of which DKT products are directly sold through more than 7 700 outlets which in approximately 62% of all potential outlets, a high level of reach across the country.
The intended outcomes of the program are the following: - Increased knowledge of SRHR and choice - Increased availability and use of SRHR products - Raised quality of SRHR goods, services and information.
