In addition, the Ministry strengthened its “Second Chance Education” programme for a more targeted approach to reduce the number of out-of-school children.\n• The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs decided to revise the bylaws for the enforcement of Georgia’s Law on Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes to encourage and promote breastfeeding, and the data triggered prioritization of overweight prevention on the policy agenda and the development of a regulatory framework for school nutrition in Georgia.\n• To respond to the water quality challenges, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure revised the water infrastructure programme to prioritize the regions most affected by E-coli contamination and is in the process of establishing a partnership of key stakeholders to plan the actions for improving water quality.\n• Finally, the Parliament of Georgia adopted the Code on the Rights of the Child, which fully prohibits corporal punishment in any setting and encourages development of positive parenting programmes at the municipal level to support parents in bringing up their children.\n• To respond to the data derived from MICS on elevated blood levels amongst 41 per cent of 2-7 year-old children in Georgia, a partnership between UNICEF and the Government of Georgia was launched. The Government of Georgia developed a response action plan which includes further research into the sources of lead exposure, as well as free of charge medical support, including medicines, for children with elevated blood lead levels and their family members.
