Training in early essential newborn care reached 908 providers, resulting in a 90 per cent safe delivery rate and 75 per cent kangaroo mother care provision.Recovery rates were high, with 97 per cent of pregnant women and 99 per cent of newborns recovering in the West Nile subregion. \n\nUNICEF Uganda provided dedicated support for maternal and newborn quality of care, targeting seven districts in Western Uganda to innovatively build skills for frontline providers by modelling newborn resuscitation by way of simulation, leveraging technical capacities from Mbarara University of Science and Technology and the three resident regional referral hospitals (RRHs). A total of 17 newborn care units were operationalized and equipped with essential equipment for newborn care and resuscitation. As a result, a zerofold increase in neonatal intensive care unit admissions with average survival at 89 per cent was reported. Of these, 93 per cent of all low birthweight babies were promptly initiated on kangaroo mother care in seven districts, exceeding the target of 80 per cent.\n\nUNICEF Uganda has provided infant and young child feeding counselling to over 5.1 million mothers and caregivers, exceeding the target. UNICEF Uganda also administered 9.7 million vitamin A supplements, achieving 96 per cent coverage among eligible children. A total of 783,331 adolescents have received nutrition messages and services through UReport and other initiatives.\n\nUNICEF Uganda implemented community empowerment initiatives, benefiting nearly 50,000 caregivers. Achievements included equipping over 3,000 children\nwith life skills to report violence, reaching over 321,000 individuals with gender equality interventions, educating over 126,000 people about preventing child\nmarriage and female genital mutilation, and promoting safe reporting channels for sexual exploitation and abuse through the National Parenting Manual.\n\nWith the flexible thematic funding from Sweden, UNICEF Uganda continued supporting the government in strengthening the integration of nutrition supplies\ninto mainstream health supply chain systems. UNICEF Uganda supported the National Supplies Integrated Task Force in coordinating the procurement,\nmanagement and last mile delivery of therapeutic foods and other supplies in the country. This has contributed to increased support from different partners,\nincluding UNHCR, WFP, and USAID. Consequently, the government and UNICEF Uganda procured over 40,000 cartons of ready to use\ntherapeutic foods to treat 66,621 children with severe wasting in 2024.\n\nIn 2024, four national capacity building engagements were conducted for 195 health service managers and service providers (137 male and 59 female) on the quantification, requisitioning and management of nutrition supplies, as well as documentation and reporting.\n\nIn summary our assessment is that UNICEF County Office in Uganda has achieved its objectives and results in all areas, including
