DT Institute has successfully been engaging with several partners across Sudan in various locations. The work of DTI has resulted in a roadmap with preliminary recommendations for its work in Sudan.  DTIs work has also resulted in rapid assessment reports on the humanitarian situation in regions and\u002For states where DTI works. DTI also carried out assessments on conflict drivers in DTIs focus areas, which has included recommendations for programming. Despite the challenging operational environment, the war and Internet blackout, DT Institute collaborated with its partners to assist in developing their application submission skills to ensure quality. DTI:s work has thereafter resulted in releasing a call for applications for NGO:s to apply for small-grants.\n\nThe second RFP cycle attracted 44 potential applicants and resulted in 25 acceptable concept notes. Nine subgrants have been approved, with another eight pending. Support to local partners in developing their Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) plans, a MEL specialist has been added to the team. Operationally, the first payments for partners are being processed, with an emphasis on helping grantees to improve communication and standardizing documentation to enhance efficiency and clarity in processing their requests.\n\nApproved grants are community focus on peacebuilding, psychosocial support, technology empowerment, and cultural documentation with project durations varying from four months to six months and two weeks. The pending grants worksheet includes a diverse set of projects aimed at addressing various community needs in Sudan. The key focus areas include peacebuilding, combating hate speech, trauma healing, youth advocacy, and cultural initiatives using music and arts.\n\nWhile the program aims to ensure an equal number of grants across the three states, Blue Nile stands out with the highest number of approved grants, totaling five, and also leads with an additional three pending grants. In comparison, Darfur and South Kordofan each have two approved grants, but Darfur edges out South Kordofan in pending grants, with three compared to two. This difference is in part attributable to the greater instability in Darfur over the past several months.\n\nYear 2 Results: \n\n1. Youth Empowerment & Capacity Building\n\nIn Blue Nile, 449 students participated in STEM sessions, which led to increased curiosity in learning and a measurable reduction in school dropout risks. At the same time, 59 teachers were trained to deliver STEM content, with 90.5% demonstrating improved knowledge and classroom management skills. This strengthened their ability to keep students engaged and prevent dropouts.\n\nBeyond schools, 150 community members majority young people aged 18 to 30 acquired new capacities in digital literacy, podcasting, audiovisual production, and fake news detection. These skills enabled them to produce credible counternarratives. Youth groups went on to create 30 podcasts that promoted dialogue on conflict resolution and coexistence, raising awareness within their communities on these critical issues.\n\nAn unexpected but important result was the creation of 30 educational games promoting peace. These games sparked wider community interest in participating in dialogue initiatives, showing that youth innovation can generate new entry points for peacebuilding and engagement.\n\n2- Mental Health & Psychosocial Support\n\nTrauma awareness and psychosocial support reached nearly 10,000 people across the Darfur regions, contributing to improved coping mechanisms and wider community resilience. Narrative theater and entertainment days engaged more than 2,000 participants, helping to reduce stigma around trauma and creating safe spaces for emotional expression.\n\nIn Shagra and Zamzam IDP camps in El-Fashier, traumaawareness programs were introduced, resulting in participants reporting 5092% improvement rates in coping skills, marking a significant breakthrough in psychosocial support delivery.\n\nAn unexpected but important result was the grassroots adaptation of digital tools, as podcasts were played aloud in displacement settings without internet access, ensuring that vulnerable groups (including people with disabilities; elderly\npeople; women, men, and children; youth leaders; community activists; and representatives from local organizations.) could still benefit from awareness messages and community dialogue.\n\n3- Civil Society Strengthening\n\nDuring the reporting period, BIPS strengthened the capacity of Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) and local NGOs in El Fasher through two targeted workshops.\n\nThe first workshop, attended by 40 participants, addressed common organizational gaps in financial management, project management, and proposal writing. As a result, NGOs improved their ability to communicate internally and externally, developed stronger reportwriting skills, and adopted practical systems for logistics and financial oversight. These changes enhanced their overall administrative performance and ability to manage grants effectively.\n\nThe second workshop, also attended by 40 participants, focused on conflict sensitivity in NGO programming. Participants gained a clearer understanding of conflict drivers, strengthened their skills in mediation, and learned to integrate conflictsensitive approaches into their work. The training fostered cooperation through dialogue and reinforced shared values within society, contributing to more resilient and responsive local organizations.\n\n4- Counter-Narratives & Media Literacy\n\nLocal content creators produced a series of documentaries, 30 podcasts, and multiple radio campaigns that directly challenged hate speech and misinformation. These outputs reached thousands of community members, equipping them with tools to critically assess information and strengthening resilience against disinformation. As a result, youth and grassroots groups became more capable of generating credible counternarratives that promoted coexistence and peace.\n\nAn unexpected but important outcome emerged during internet blackouts: communities innovated by using oral campaigns to continue spreading peace messages. This adaptation ensured that awarenessraising did not stop despite connectivity challenges, and it expanded the reach of counternarratives to populations otherwise excluded from digital platforms.\n\nAdditionally, traditional Hakhamat storytelling was successfully adapted to counter the glorification of war, blending cultural heritage with peace messaging. This approach not only preserved local traditions but also transformed them into powerful tools for peacebuilding, making messages more relatable and trusted. Communities reported increased interest in dialogue initiatives, showing that culturally rooted methods can shift attitudes and foster engagement in conflictaffected areas.\n\n5- Community Cohesion & Peacebuilding\n\nDuring the reporting period, nine Community Cohesion Plans (CCPs) were developed in Blue Nile through structured dialogue sessions. These processes engaged 334 participants, including internally displaced people (IDPs) and host community members, in discussions on conflict drivers, reconciliation, and coexistence.\n\nAs a result, communities that previously lacked structured mechanisms for dialogue now have locally owned action plans to mitigate conflict and strengthen resilience. The CCPs led to the establishment of reconciliation committees and early warning mechanisms in several localities, enabling communities to respond more effectively to emerging tensions.\n\nThe process also fostered attitude and behavior change: participants reported greater willingness to collaborate across ethnic and tribal lines, and youth groups demonstrated increased confidence in leading dialogue initiatives. By engaging diverse stakeholders, the CCPs created new spaces for trustbuilding and collective problemsolving, laying the groundwork for longerterm peacebuilding efforts in Blue Nile.\n\n6- Financial & Operational Resilience\n\nIn 2024, 22 grants were awarded to local partners  17 Peacebuilding Small Grants and 5 Rapid Response Grants (RRGs)  across Blue Nile, Darfur, and South Kordofan. Sida funds were disbursed under strict compliance controls, ensuring transparency and accountability despite the volatile operating environment.\n\nBlue Nile: Partners such as STEM, APDO, Nirvana, Hope, and YPeer received grants that enabled them to deliver education, trauma awareness, and community cohesion activities. These funds directly supported 449 students, 59 teachers, and over 2,000 community members through STEM sessions, theater, and entertainment days. The grants also facilitated the drafting of nine Community Cohesion Plans (CCPs) with 334 participants, creating locally owned mechanisms for dialogue and reconciliation.\n\nDarfur: Grants to organizations including Awafy, FSC, DOFDAHR, and AYC strengthened grassroots NGO capacity and youth engagement. Funding enabled 80 NGO members to improve financial and project management systems, while FSCs peacebuilding workshops and radio broadcasts reached 60 youth activists and an estimated 5,000 listeners. Trauma support sessions funded under these grants reached 9,578 individuals, including IDPs, providing psychosocial care in one of the most conflictaffected regions.\n\nSouth Kordofan: Grants to PCVO and other partners supported trauma healing and awareness programs in IDP camps. Two intensive fiveday sessions reached 51 participants, with reported improvement rates of 50% and 92% in coping skills. These funds enabled grassroots organizations to deliver psychosocial support and strengthen resilience in communities facing displacement and violence.\n\nUnexpected but critical adaptations ensured continuity of operations. With Sudans banking system collapsed, partners relied on alternative cash transfer methods, tools Sida recognized for use in conflict affected areas including Hawala, Western Union, Stars Orbit, and AlKhatim Company.
