Further, religious extremism played a growing role in the conflict dynamics of Jerusalem, with Temple Mount Movements, ultra-nationalist Israeli settlers and Hamas narratives centering Jerusalem as the symbolic battleground. In this context, the Status Quo at the holy sites have been further eroded, with an increased Jewish presence at Al Aqsa, and attacks on Christian institutions and clergy. Lastly, results of the US presidential elections in November had a major impact on US policy vis-a-vis Jerusalem, making it more difficult to engage with the White House during the last quarter of 2024. \n\nOne of the major efforts undertaken by The Cooperation Partner  during 2024 was the advocacy aimed at the G7 with the goal of securing a statement that would reaffirm commitments to the status quo at religious sites, Palestinian presence in East Jerusalem, and diplomatic engagement in the city's governance. This initiative was undertaken by The Cooperation Partner  in order to re-insert Jerusalem into the international diplomatic agenda and safeguard the city's multi-faith character. Despite initial success and strong expression of support from several European and Middle-Eastern stakeholders expressed strong support for the initiative, as did religious leaders. The initiative was well received in preliminary diplomatic engagements and positioned for further negotiations within the G-7 framework.\n\nHowever, despite the initial momentum G-7 declaration ultimately did not materialize due to shifting geopolitical priorities and political uncertainty not least in light of the election of president Trump. The G-7 initiative is indicative of the specific character of the The Cooperation Partner  intervention, which provides ample opportunities that can have an out-sized impact relative to their costs, but whose success is heavily dependent upon 1) Political developments in the U.S and European capitals and 2) The Cooperation Partner 's ability to access high-level decision makers in those capitals. Nevertheless, The Cooperation Partner  assesses that there is a broad agreement between the EU and various states that the declaration should be revisited at an alternative venue. \n\nThe Cooperation Partner has engaged in other types of high-level advocacy and diplomatic engagements including with high-level White House and officials of the US state department and members of congress, EU officials, European foreign ministers, UN agencies and Canadian officials. The Cooperation Partner has also engaged in policy research and development, including the tracking of settlement expansion and home demolitions and status quo violations at holy sites.\n\nIn light of increasing religious extremism, and worrying political narratives concerning the holy sites of the city, The Cooperation Partner  has also made considerable efforts to preserve Jerusalem's historical, political, cultural and religious character. They have developed an extensive database cataloging key Jewish, Muslim, Christian and heritage sites in the Old City and the Old City Basin. The database is in the process of being developed into an interactive website which will underscore Jerusalem's shared heritage and combat religious extremism. \n\nLastly, The Cooperation Partner  has continued to produce it's podcast Axis Mundi, producing 7 episodes in 2025 on a wide-array of topics related to Jerusalem. \n\nIn general, given the absence of indicators and logical frameworks, in combination with the fact that The Cooperation Partner  is heavily reliant on political advocacy, it is difficult to describe any outcome or impact in concrete terms. It is clear however, that given the right political environment, The Cooperation Partner  has the potential to influence key figures and decision-makers for a relatively low cost.
