It was reported that community activism carried out by the women’s groups and lawyers’ forums have led to increased awareness in the communities on the laws and illegal practices such as early marriage and dowry. ASK had contributed to the drafting of the Domestic Violence Act which was passed in 2010. ASK was also active in lobbying with the government to adopt policies and regulations that are effective in eliminating child labour. As a result, the government included a code of conduct as a chapter in the National Child Labour Eradication Policy. The investigation unit of ASK receives requests from the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which is an indication of ASK’s credibility. ASK’s information and statistical data are also used by journalists, NGOs, government agencies, students, and lawyers. The human rights defenders forums (HRDFs) developed by ASK conduct investigations locally, and pass the cases to ASK and the NHRC. As a result, increased number of human rights violations are reported and investigated. During 2007 – 2010, ASK undertook a number of public interest litigations which have contributed to a number of positive developments.
