Beskrivning

The African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) has applied to Sida for funding of 75,500,000 SEK to carry out the contribution "Delivering Climate Resilient Development Policies in Africa" at a continental level during the period 2019 – 2023. The overall objective of the proposed intervention is supporting African governments, the private sector and communities to respond to the impacts of climate change enhancing the integrated implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The intervention basically focuses on four focus areas namely 1) Technical support for integrated implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), 2) Building the resilience of African economies, societies and ecosystems to climate change, 3) Addressing vulnerabilities and managing climate induced human insecurities, and 4) Coordination, knowledge management and partnerships. The African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) is a centre for knowledge generation and delivery to strengthen, influence and enable the transition to climate-resilient, inclusive and sustainable development through responsive policies, plans and programmes towards transformed economies, healthy ecosystems and human wellbeing. ACPC has been serving the Climate for Development in Africa (ClimDev-Africa) programme as the secretariat and analytical arm consequently playing an important role as the principal interface between continental policy process and national implementation. ACPC's efforts are highly relevant from a continental perspective with many comparative advantages. The proposed intervention will generate information, build capacities and support policies and strategies for building climate resilience in economies, ecosystems and livelihoods.

PACJA has applied to Sida for funding of 40,631,000 SEK to carry out the "Deepening Non-State Actors Engagement in International Post-Paris Climate Change Dialogue and Response Strategies in the context of SDGs" at a continental level during the period 2017 – 2020. The intervention aims at 1) creating awareness and understanding of the effects of climate change and climate negotiations from a "Climate Justice" perspective at the national, regional and global levels, 2) Engaging, enabling and enhancing African CSOs and Non State Actors' (NSA) capacity, their participation and voicing in the global climate negotiations 3) Strengthening and improving the ability of African civil society organizations to follow up on national commitments, compliance and implementation of the Paris Agreement, including NDCs 4) Raising public awareness and creating conditions for ordinary citizens in different African countries to understand climate change and justice in the implementation of the Paris Agreement. PACJA will implement the intervention together with the eight strategically identified country chapters in eight African countries and individual and organizational members of the alliance in the continent.

United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA/ACPC) has applied to Sida for funding of 10,546 440 SEK to solve the liquidity challenges associated with the imbalance of resources available for programmatic support Vs related staff costs. Thus, this bridging finance would ensure continuity of programme activities by guaranteeing professional staffs to fully sustain and continue implementation of the already ongoing programme activities, for a period of one year (01 June 2018 to 31 May 2019). The prioritized activities indicated in the project document have already received programmatic support from their respective funding partners, i.e. DfID for the program Weather and Climate Information SERvices (WISER), The Norwegian Development Fund (NDF) providing initial funding support for the Africa Climate Resilient Investment Facility (AFRI-RES) program and the general program support coming from the Royal Norwegian Embassy (Ethiopia).

Exempel på områden där Sverige stödjer regionala insatser är hållbart utnyttjande av gränsöverskridande naturresurser, fred och stabilitet, handel, migration samt hindra spridandet av smittsamma sjukdomar.

Miljöskydd

Innefattar bland annat aktiviteter som rör bevarande, skydd eller förbättring av den fysiska miljön som inte berör en specifik sektor. Innefattar exempelvis aktiviteter gällande miljöpolitik och förvaltning, utbildning och forskning inom miljöfrågor, skydd av biosfären och biologisk mångfald, naturvårdsområden samt skydd mot och förhindrande av översvämningar.
