The purpose of the project is to advance knowledge on the relationships between energy transition and energy access in the context of Nepal. Energy transition in Nepal runs along two parallel processes: a transition from low-access to high access to modern energy for meeting the demands of the population, and a transition from fossil-fuel based energy to renewable energy. However, little has been known about how these two processes relate to each other.By defining access as the ability to derive benefits from energy sources, we aim to identify the differentiated patterns of means, relations, and processes that enable\u002Fdisable small businesses and households’ opportunities to have access, alleviate poverty and derive benefits from energy transition.Our core research questions are: How and to what extent is energy access achieved in the transition from fossil-fuel based energy to renewable energy? How is energy proverty and energy transition related? By providing qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the ramifications of energy access (SDG 7) for other areas of sustainable development, this study contributes to the need to harmonize global agreement of Sustainable Development Goals with local realities on the ground.",{"lang":209,"value":219},"Nepal är ett av världens minst utvecklade länder med en av de lägsta nivåerna av energiförbrukning per capita. Landet saknar även större tillgångar av kol, naturgas eller olja. Den kraftiga jordbävningen i april 2015 förvärrade tillgången till energi då cirka 30% av el-infrastrukturen skadades. Inbördeskriget mellan det maoistiska upproret och Nepals regering ledde till politisk instabilitet som drabbade de statligt ägda sektorerna, inklusive energisektorn, och ledde till ett fragmenterat ledarskap, förändrade prioriteringar och politisk diskontinuitet. Under fredsprocessen efter konflikten startade regeringen ett antal reformer. Detta projekt syftar till att analysera den Nepalesiska energiomställningen och problematiserar om den kommer att öka energitillgången för utsatta grupper eller inte.Övergången mot en koldioxidsnål ekonomi genom energiomställning är ett av kärnelementen i åtgärderna för att motverka klimatförändringarna.  Som en av de länder som för närvarande har lägst växthusgasutsläpp står Nepal inför stora utmaningar i att hantera klimatförändringarna och samtidigt säkra tillgången till energi. Klimatförändringarna kan å ena sidan resultera i att energitillgången hotas eftersom man uppskattar att särskilt landsbygdssamhällen som bor i bergen kan förlora tillgången till sina energikällor för matlagning. Å andra sidan ses utveckling av förnybar energi som en lösning för att övervinna den sårbarhet som skapas av klimatförändringar. Detta projekt kommer att belysa dessa parallella processer och spänningar vid skärningspunkten mellan energi och klimatförändringar.  Genom att tillhandahålla kvalitativa och kvantitativa nationstäckande data om förändrade mönster i energitillgång bidrar denna studie till behovet av att harmonisera det globala avtalet om hållbara utvecklingsmål med lokala realiteter på marken, särskilt gällande SDG 7 (tillgång till ren energi) i förhållande till SDG 10 (minskade ojämlikheter), SDG 11 (hållbara
