Below some examples of results against the 2024 targets:\n\nThroughout the duration of the project, UNESCO delivered a highly relevant programme to improve sexual and reproductive health and education outcomes for adolescents and young people in Zambia.\n\nThe project exceeded in the following targets:\n\n1) Number of grades 5-12 learners reached by high quality sexuality education curricula that is evidence based and age appropriate;\n\n2) Number of pre-service teachers trained in CSE; and\n\n3) Number of community members sensitized on the re-entry policy through mass media.\nThe target for the number of Grades 5-12 learners reached by high quality sexuality education curricula that is evidence based and age appropriate went over the expected 2 million. Number of pre-service teachers trained in CSE had a target of 15,000 where the result at the end of 2023 was 17,316. For the number of community members sensitized on the re-entry policy through mass media, the target was 4 250 000 and ended up being over 6,5 million people throughout the 5 focus provinces in Zambia.  \n\nDespite these successes, the implementation during the COVID-19 pandemic led to restrictions which limited both project activities and the delivery of CSE content in schools. The project was therefore reprogrammed and adapted during the second year to ensure continuation of activities, using alternative tools such as virtual platforms, television broadcasts, and radio programmes.\n\nFurthermore, organized conservative opposition to CSE led to resistance from parents as well as other community members and even discomfort among teachers in delivering CSE content. The response to this focused on reshaping the narrative around CSE by organizing awareness campaigns and community dialogues to spread accurate information about SRH and maintain engagement in the project.\n\nAdditionally, UNESCO mobilized its partners and key stakeholders to adress the opposition through deepened advocacy efforts within communities. This led to increased engagement and strategic collaboration with members of parliament as well as ministries of education. A notable example of this collaboration was in November 2023, when the Speaker of the National Assembly launched the Advocacy Strategy on Adolescent and Reproductive Health, guiding members of parliament in advancing the implementation of Life Skill Health Education (LSHE) in Zambia.\n\nAlthough many parents and community leaders were opposed to the delivery of CSE, due to a lack of understanding, positive attitudes towards CSE were observed among learners who expressed a need for certain critical topics to be further elaborated on.\nThe project contributed to improved outcomes in sexual and reproductive health, gender, and education for adolescents and young people at both community and national levels. At the community level, teachers and pre-service teachers were trained to deliver quality, age-appropriate CSE, and CSE books were distributed to learners and educators across the five focus provinces. At the national level, the project successfully mobilized political stakeholders to commit to advancing adolescent sexual and reproductive health and
