These were walk-in clients and referrals by various partners including the courts, police, Civil Society Organizations, media and mobile clinics.\nA total of 2,281 clients were referred to the clinic. In comparison with the previous year, 2023, this achievement was higher by 151 cases. 849 out of a targeted 700 beneficiaries were assisted with legal representation. GBV cases were the highest at 957, of these, 575 were economic abuse, 355\nwere physical abuse and 27 were psychological abuse cases. A total of 877 (representing 29.1% of the total number of cases for the year\n2024) were resolved through internal mediation. A total of 48 beneficiaries received legal representation in court annexed mediation proceedings. This was against a planned target of 41 cases. A total of 843 women and children were provided with psychosocial counselling services against the annual target of 600. The beneficiaries of this psychosocial counselling service also included children who were found in conflict with the law.\n-While challenges remain in increasing pro bono lawyers participation. A total of 22 volunteer lawyers registered with NLACW in 2024 with 3 of them providing legal services on full-time basis. 2024 saw an increase with the number of cases handled by pro bono lawyers, that is, a total of 33 cases were handled by pro bono lawyers. \n\n-The objective of providing timely legal aid services was met, with targets exceeded. The ongoing increase in cases underscores both the need for and appreciation of legal aid services provided by NLACW. The clinic has effectively provided timely legal aid to underprivileged women and children, enabling them to claim their rights and receive remedies from the courts significantly impacting empowerment and justice (An example of a case can be observed below). \n\nLegal Literacy:\n- A total of 35,500 booklets were printed in English and local languages. The publications in English and local language ensured a broader coverage of people was reached and information disseminated to raise awareness on women and children's rights. \n-NLACW conducted 13 community workshops in targeted communities. A total of 1,233 people attended the workshops in 5 districts. Majority of the participants were women, comprising almost 64% of the total number of participants.\n- A total of 12 school workshops were conducted in targeted areas and a total of 1,256 learners attended the workshops. Most of the participants were girls, comprising almost 55% of the total number of participants.\n- A total of 10 television programmes were conducted on women and children's rights. A total of 14 clients were referred to NLACW as a result of the television programmes.\n-39 radio programmes were conducted on both national and community radio, a total of 19 clients were referred to NLACW as a result of the radio programmes. The programmes were conducted in English and local languages. \n-NLACW conducted a total 26 mobile clinics in various communities, public places, including correctional facilities. \n-In 2024, 3,496 people visited the community paralegal desks. The high number of people shows more people are able to access legal services, primarily legal information, mediation and referrals to specialized legal service providers.\n\nAdvocacy:\n- Despite the main focus on legal representation and legal literacy, NLACW aslo took part in an advocacy activity under the third strategic objective focused on advocating for laws and policies strengthening the rights of women and children. NLACW supported Chamuka Chiefdom to finalize development the chiefdom bylaws aimed at addressing harmful practices that discriminate against women and girls. \n\nOther activities:\n-NLACW joined the rest of the world in commemorating the 16 days of Activism against Gender-based Violence. The clinic provided mobile legal clinics in correctional facilities for female inmates. NLACW collaborated with the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) to extend the services to male inmates. The activities received support from lawyers in private practice who participated in the activities.\n\nOther achievements\n-NLACW developed the strategic plan for 2025-2029. The Plan will serve as a guiding framework for NLACWs objectives, activities and new support for the next five years, positioning NLACW for continued growth and impact.\n\nCase study:\nAn example of the type of impact NLACW has in the community can be observed in the case below: \n\nProperty Grabbing  Bwalya Nonde (Not real Name) \nBrief Facts: Musonda Kabwe (not real name) was an administrator to the estate of her late father. She took an action to the high court and applied for an order to sale the only house left by the deceased which property the client (Bwalya Nonde) being a widow had a life interest in. The order of sale was granted and Musonda Kabwe sold the house to a third party without the consent of Bwalya Nonde, overlooking her life interest in the property. Bwalya Nonde refused to give vacant possession of the house which necessitated the third party to commence an action in court against her.\n\nAction Taken: Bwalya Nonde came to NLACW to seek legal assistance. NLACW provided timely representation to Bwalya Nonde and ensured that her defence was filed before court and Bwalya Nonde was assigned a lawyer who represented her during the court hearing.  After hearing the parties, the court delivered its ruling which was in favour of Bwalya Nonde.  The court ordered that the certificate of title which was issued in the name of the new owner, the third party, should be cancelled and re-issued in the name of the deceased, in order to protect the interest of Bwalya Nondes. The court further ordered that the sale of the property should only be sold where all the beneficiaries consent to the sale. Bwalya Nonde was happy with the service provided by NLACW as her interest in the property was now safeguarded.",{"title":314,"description":316,"measure":318,"ascending":206},{"narrative":315},"Not
