It follows a previous SIDA supported pilot project implemented from 2017 to 2018. A national level consultation and baseline study was carried out under the previous intervention to identify the gaps in the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. The baseline unveiled the following constraints: (i) Gender-related constraints such as low schooling, gender-based violence, socio-cultural barriers, women’s economic over-dependency in relation to men; (ii) weak engagement of women in dialogue and peacebuilding initiatives in Mozambique and (iii) untapped opportunities and local experiences that could be capitalized for the promotion and enhancement of women’s participation and their influence in the process of peace and national reconciliation.\n\nThe newly proposed intervention was jointly conceived by FDC, ACCORD and IMD as co-implementation partners. FDC is Embassy of Sweden's agreement partner in the project, and FDC will be forwarding funds to the other two co-implementing organisations (IMD and ACCORD). \n\nThe project will be implemented in three years starting from December 2020 up until 2023. The geographical areas covered include the provinces of Sofala, Manica, Zambezia and Tete in the central part of the country, the provinces of Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Niassa, in the north, and the southern Provinces of Inhambane, Gaza, and Maputo. Although the project had only been implemented for a year, there were already signs that it could have positive results.\n\nThis consortium, composed of FDC, IMD and ACORD, faced major challenges in terms of internal control, which resulted in the misuse of funds and meant that contributions had to be stopped. For better closure management, a phasing-out plan was drawn up so that there would be no negative consequences for the project.\n\nDuring this short implementation period, the Women and Peace movement, which had its first initiative in 2018, was consolidated. This movement, which was supported by the Project, created a national platform that aimed to facilitate dialogue between women from different social spheres across the country. In terms of results, this project contributed to the following outcomes:\n\n1. Creation and institutionalisation of district and provincial Peace Centres as spaces for community dialogue;\n\n2. More than 1,500 peace mediations carried out in communities;\n\n3. Development of two conflict mediation manuals;\n\n4. Economic empowerment initiatives focused on rotating credit savings;\n\n5. Overall, the revitalisation of the Peace Centres resulted in the involvement of 8,600 women in 370 Peace Centres in Niassa, Cabo Delgado, Sofala and Tete.\n\nThese were the initial results, as the first year was the inception of the project, during which capacity building and the baseline for project implementation were
