The program covered four textile and clothing producing countries that also are part of the Agadir Agreement; Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Jordan. It also included a regional component to enhance regional collaboration within the Agadir countries. The program was co-financed with Switzerland, SECO, that also covers a global component with countries in Central Asia called GTEX\u002FMENATEX. \n\nITC MENATEX focused on enhancing competitiveness of SMEs in the textile and clothing sector (T&C) with the aim to increase export- and employment opportunities, and to strengthen national Business Support Organisations (BSOs) and their services to SMEs. The overall aim was to stimulate employment and income generation along the T&C value chain through increased trade and improved competitiveness.\n\nOverall, the program has contributed to good and concrete results and GTEX\u002FMENATEX supported more than 200 companies, from smaller ones with 10-15 employees to larger with 500 plus employees. Participating companies increased their workforce on average between 5 percent to 43 percent and several SMEs doubled or tripled their number of employees. Moreover, over 900 market linkages was facilitated and according to ITC SMEs entered over 70 new markets, including Poland, Sweden, Bulgaria, Germany, UK, Canada and Switzerland as a complement to US and rest of EU countries. Export value of particpating companies increased over 100 percent and some SMEs started to export for the first time. \n\nThe program also supported fashion designers, of whom most were youth and women, in developing their own brands. Through targeted training and coaching, ITC helped designers enhance their branding, develop markets strategies and supported local, regional and international exposure. \n\nAt the overall level for GTEX\u002FMENATEX, the following results at enterprise level were achieved:\n\n- 23,516 jobs retained\n\n- 4,624 jobs created\n\n- 101 MUSD increase in export value for more than 150 companies\n\n- 2,235 new business contratcs signed\n\n- 180 SMEs improved international competitiveness\n\n- 1,160 women capacited to take higher roles\n\nThe program also supported resource efficiency and circular production, to comply with international regulations and increase competitiveness. 126 environmental measures were implemented in energy, water, waste and chemical use in MENA. \n\nExamples of achieved results for resource efficiency are:\n\n- 1M USD cost savings per year\n\n- 6,276 MWh\u002Fyear in energy savings\n\n- 11,010 tons\u002Fyear in CO\" reductions\n\n- 78,203 m3\u002Fyear in reduced water consumption\n\nResults at the institutional level: \n\n- 37 Business Support Organizations (BSOs) improved operational and managerial performance, serving almost 2,000 clients\n\n- 197
