Being the second most populous country in Africa, Ethiopia is in the early stages of a demographic transition with falling death rates and high birth rates, leading to rapid population growth. The population is currently estimated at 112 000 000 and is expected to double by 2050 if same rates continue.  \n\nThe proposed intervention by UNFPA, their 9th country programme (CP) builds on the previous CP 2017-2020 which Sweden also supported and it aims to end the unmet need for family planning in Ethiopia. During 2020, Sweden provided additional funds of 17 400 000 SEK to UNFPA for their Covid-19 response strategy. Out of these, ca 5 500 000 SEK is expected to spill over to the new country programme.    \n\nThe intervention encompasses access to modern and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, end avoidable maternal deaths and end gender-based violence, enable demographic transition for attaining sustainable development, social cohesion, peace and security.
