Phase I ran between 2015 and 2019 and this second phase is now aiming at consolidating and developing the capacity and knowledge acquired by the participating Somali authorities in the first phase.\n\nThis will be done by continuing to support the Somali statistical authorities. This result supports evidence-based decision-making and improved alignment with international standards.\n\nGross Domestic Product (GDP)\nSomalia's capacity to produce reliable GDP statistics was significantly strengthened by the support from the project, enabling the Somalia National Bureau of Statistics to publish national GDP  estimates for the first time in 2021 and align with IMF reporting standards. Puntland achieved full independence in calculating annual GDP, marking a major milestone in sustainable GDP production. These results have enhanced the quality, reliability, and credibility of Somalia's economic statistics.\n\nGender statistics\nSignificant progress was made in developing Somalia's capacity to produce reliable gender statistics, resulting in the successful publication of the Women and Men gender statistics booklets at both national and federal member state level. Somali statistical authorities now demonstrate the ability to independently generate comprehensive gender statistics, with improved processes for data validation, table generation, and chart production. The strengthened capacity ensures the continued production of high-quality gender statistics, supporting efforts to address gender-related issues.\n\nSomali Integrated Household Budget Survey\nThe project supported the Somali Integrated Household Budget Survey (SIHBS) by strengthening the capacity of Somali statistical authorities to enhance the quality of economic and household statistics. A tailored and Somali-specific sample design improved the reliability and relevance of the data, while comprehensive training fostered technical skills and greater ownership of the survey process. The successful completion of SIHBS demonstrates the authorities ability to manage complex surveys, positioning them for a more sustainable statistical production in the future.\n\nStatistical Methodology\nTraining in sampling techniques, survey design, and data analysis improved skills across key areas, enabling more accurate and consistent statistical production. Enhanced technical expertise, including business survey methodology as well as in statistical software, has positioned Somali authorities to manage complex surveys independently and deliver robust and relevant statistics.\n\nCommunication and dissemination\nThe project improved data accessibility and outreach to users. The implementation of the PX-Web system provided a modern platform for dissemination of statistics, enhancing user access. The introduction to a strategic approach to utilising social media, enabling targeted campaigns and improved engagement has provided the authorities an opportunity to effectively reach present and new users.\n\nThe report also highlights the importance of the financial support to salaries for 12 Somali staff members at SNBS and PSD, and for procurement of equipment. The reimbursement of salaries supported project implementation, ensured progress, and maintained production capacity at the statistical authorities, according to the report. This relates to the goal of enhancing capacities for planning and organisation of statistical departments.\n\nAll in all, the majority of the intended results are achieved, even if some activities have had to be amended or discontinued.\n\nStatistics Sweden acknowledges that it is too early to fully assess significant and sustainable changes at the impact level. Still, their conclusion is that there were indications of progress toward this objective.
