Sida assesses that UN Women has since become a well-functioning and strategic actor and advocate for equality in Sudan. UN Women returned to Sida with a revised needs analysis to identify the need for support for its work in light of the still intense conflict in the country. The now proposed extended support covers needs during the end of 2024 and the years 2025 and 2026.\n\nUN Women proposes to build on the previous work in organizing and strengthening the women's movement in Sudan. This will be done by establishing platforms for female mediators and negotiators, providing opportunities and resources for meaningful participation in peace talks and mediation efforts. Sudanese women's groups will be given the opportunity to participate in peace negotiations and decision-making processes and in Sudan-related regional and global events to build capacity, knowledge and skills in peace processes.\n\nThe second identified area is to strengthen preventive work to protect girls and women against gender-based, including sexual, violence. The intervention will not only protect individuals from immediate harm and improve their ability to earn a living, but will contribute to the resilience of communities and lay the foundations for long-term stability and prosperity once conflict has subsided. The Peace for Sudan Platform expanded from 43 to 50 organizations, evolving into a coordinated advocacy coalition with shared positions and joint representation in national, regional and international forums.\n\nMore than 50 women strengthened their skills in leadership, mediation, negotiation and advocacy, creating a network of trained women peacebuilders better equipped to engage in peace and humanitarian processes.\n\nWomen's organizations agreed on common priorities, including women's participation in peace processes, accountability for conflict-related sexual violence, humanitarian access and direct funding for women-led organizations which were consistently promoted across nine international advocacy platforms.\n\nTwo national coordination platforms were established on women's access to justice and UNSCR 1325 and political participation - strengthening collaboration among women's organizations.\n\nSudanese women engaged directly with the UN Country Team, African Union, UN Special Envoy and other international actors, resulting in commitments from UN partners to strengthen engagement with women-led organizations and increase support for their participation in humanitarian and peace processes.\n\nOverall, the programme strengthened the institutional foundations for women's meaningful participation in future peace processes by improving coordination, leadership, advocacy and access to decision-makers, despite the continued exclusion of women from formal peace negotiations.\n\nSummary of main results (Outcome 2)\n\nThe programme supported the set up three Comprehensive Women and Girls Safe Spaces (CWGSS), community referral mechanisms and coordination systems, creating the foundation for survivor-centred GBV services in Gedaref and White Nile States.\n\nDuring the first implementation period, 1 613 people (1 496 women and 117 men) benefited from GBV prevention, psychosocial support, referral and livelihoods activities, while 66 GBV survivors were identified and referred to specialized case management.\n\nThe programme strengthened community awareness and resilience. GBV awareness and women's rights activities reached 752 community members, exceeding the annual target, while 50 women completed livelihoods training and the first Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) was established to strengthen women's economic resilience.\n\nThe programme trained 20 community leaders on survivor-centred referral pathways and protection principles, laying the groundwork for stronger community-based GBV prevention and response.\n\nAlthough dignity kit distribution and community peace dialogues were delayed by procurement and administrative processes, the programme reports that it established the systems, partnerships and referral structures needed to scale up GBV prevention and response in subsequent phases.\n\nOverall, the programme achieved start-up and systems-building results, improving access to survivor-centred services and community-based protection, while recognising that longer-term changes in GBV prevention, help-seeking behaviour and
