Reducing Preventable Maternal Deaths\n - 95% of deliveries in UNFPA supported health facilities were attended by qualified personnel.\n - 509,760 unsafe abortions and 6,396 maternal deaths were averted.\n - 1,006 obstetric fistula repairs conducted, with services expanded to 23 of 26 provinces.\n - Emergency Reproductive Health Services provided in crisis affected areas via mobile clinics and SONU trained providers.\n\n2. Expanding Access to Family Planning\n- 3.2 million users of modern contraceptives reached.\n- Evaluation of the supply chain led to clear operational recommendations and support to last mile providers such as Tulane.\n- Mobile clinics expanded to fragile areas (over 10 clinics established in conflict provinces)                                                \n- 4.9 million out of school adolescents received vocational starter kits with integrated SRHR education.\n\n3. Addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV)\n\n- 1,372 GBV survivors received holistic care.\n- More than 1 million individuals reached through GBV risk awareness and mitigation campaigns.                            \n- 3,434 GBV allegations received via green line, including 478 SEA cases in schools.    \n- The Makala prison crisis response was rapid, with provision of post rape kits and dignity supplies.\n\n 4. Youth Leadership and Empowerment\n\n - A total of 242,629 out of school girls received entrepreneurship and SRHR education.\n - CEICA Boma center was revitalized to support youth friendly services and engagement.\n - Fun activities (e.g., sports broadcasts) were used innovatively to attract youth to services.\n\n5. Policy, Data, and Demographic Intelligence\n\n- Completion of EDSIII (Demographic and Health Survey), with a formal report expected in early 2025.\n- Strengthening of the National Institute of Statistics and ongoing support to the civil registration system.\n- Support to the draft statistical law and participation in the ICPD30 review.\n\nKey achievements:\n- Strong Alignment with UNFPA Strategic Priorities: Clear focus on the three transformative results ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning and GBV.\n- Improving access in Fragile, Hard to Reach Areas: Mobile clinics and decentralized offices (Goma, Lubumbashi, Kinshasa) were instrumental in reaching IDPs and conflict affected populations.\n- Holistic GBV Programming: Integrated approach with legal, medical, psychosocial, and economic reintegration components.\n- Youth focused Innovations: Attention to adolescent girls and integration of education, vocational training, and SRHR information is commendable.\n\nCritical reflections (OBS! the analysis below is based on the assumption that the data for 2023 & 2024, cover only the respective years, and do not represent cumulative data) \n\n- UNFPA scaled-up service coverage and maternal death prevention in 2024 compared to 2023 i.e. deliveries      in supported facilities attended by qualified staff increased from 90.5% to 95%; deliveries attended by qualified staff increased from from 38,760 in 2023 to 1,308,216 in 2024; averted maternal death almost doubled from 3,056 in 2023 to 6,396 in 2024.                                                                                                                                                          \n - The report indicates a shift from institutional strengthening (2023) to direct service delivery and mobile outreach in crisis settings (2024).                                                                                                                                                  - UNFPA seems to have strengthened alignment with H6 partnership, and community based maternal care models.\n\n- Significant changes in GBV programming whereby reduction in scale was replaced by in depth focus with more emphasis on holistic care and institutional reform e.g. a total of 21,372 survivors received care in 2024 compared to 209,600 in 2023 (OBS!2023 figure includes all types of services)                                                                                                   - Similarly, the year 2023 focused more on systems-building (FONAREV, PSEA networks) while 2024 focused on incident response, survivor-centered care, and community-level awareness.
