In October 2024, the GICHD hosted an Innovation Session on artificial intelligence (AI) in Geneva. During this event, the first of its kind in the mine action sector, over 100 AI experts and mine action practitioners exchanged on challenges of the sector and possible ways to introduce AI in solutions. The event was a catalyst for several new funding proposals and projects within the sector, including a new project by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in South Sudan and one by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Mine Action Centre in Southeast Asia\n\nUkraine: \n\n- The GICHD works with national authorities to ensure that capacities are enhanced, and in turn facilitating the safe, effective, and efficient implementation of operations. The guiding principles of innovation and sustainability underpin these effort. The GICHD e.g. delivered 7 training courses on mine action in Ukraine, including a tailored workshop. A key achievement towards enhancing national ownership sustainably was handing over to the government of Ukraine a tailored training management package for NTS and quality management. \nIn Ukraine, the GICHD assessed the capacities of relevant state entities to advance gender equality and social inclusion in mine action response. Furthermore, the GICHD was invited to provide expert input to the OSCE Ministry of Economy of Ukraine workshop on gender in mine action.\n\n- The GICHD undertook preparatory work for a new research initiative focused on the localisation of mine action in Ukraine. Activities included the mapping of relevant national and international mine action operators, conducting initial consultations to understand the operational landscape, and building connections with government stakeholders. This research will analyse the systemic factors, such as regulatory and policy frameworks and partnership modalities, that shape the environment for national operators in Ukraine. This work aligns with Sidas goal of promoting local ownership of national peace efforts\n\nWomen, Peace and Security:\n\n- With the support of Sida, the GICHD is advancing its multi-country research to generate evidence on the linkages between the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and mine action. This research aims to demonstrate how gender-responsive mine action contributes to broader peace and security outcomes, and to provide practical guidance for integrating WPS commitments into mine action policy and practice across diverse contexts. \nLooking ahead, the GICHD will disseminate several key knowledge products by the end of 2025 to reinforce this work. These include a case study on Ukraine, a Recommendation Brief tailored for National Mine Action Authorities (NMAAs), and a second brief aimed at WPS stakeholders, highlighting practical entry points for integrating EORR within broader peace and security frameworks.  In addition, the GICHD will organise a workshop in Colombia in late 2025 to engage youth in the ongoing Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) research process, helping to ensure their perspectives are
