DKT provides access to a wide range of SRH products to combat unintended pregnancies, transmitted infections and avert unsafe abortions, with a focus on under-served populations.\nThis contribution will expand DKTs sustainable social marketing activities in North and South Kivu to increase demand, empower community providers to increase acceptance of SRH products, and provide capacity building to serve victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), during 2021-2023.\n\nNorth and South Kivu has been marred by years of armed conflict, where sexual violence by armed groups or forces on women or girls (“rape as a weapon of war”) has been rampant, and where the conflicts have disrupted health and education systems. Consequently, donor responses to the humanitarian situation have been fluctuant, depending on crisis and donor priorities. This has had negative impact on sustainable SRH service and provision models as well as durable capacity building of health systems and response.\n\nThe Embassy deems it necessary to continue supporting organisations working on strengthening Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and response to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).The expected results for the DKT project, with the funding available, is to provide a long-term solution to SRH by expanding service provision through community-based distribution, and by training a cohort of providers to offer commodities in North and South Kivu. More specifically DKT is expected to:\n• Strengthen the province's distribution system to ensure a permanent presence of contraceptive and Post Abortion Care (PAC) and Medical Abortion products.\n• Empower community-based providers to work within their communities on SRH information and awareness raising.\n• Train health care providers on how to serve survivors of (S)GBV, address taboos around sexuality, and demystify cultural preferences for large families.\n\nThis will be done by:\n• Leveraging the existing private infrastructure, including clinics, pharmacies, shops and community health networks.\n• Building a sustainable network of community nurses, midwives and community health care providers by training them on the provision of SRH services.\n• Training 300 health care provides on the provision of SRH services including services to victims of GBV.",{"lang":209,"value":219},"DKT är en av bara tre importörer av SRH-produkter (sexuell och reproduktiv hälsa) i Demokratiska Republiken Kongo (DRK). An additional SEK 9,600,000 was reallocated from the discontinued regional program to the bilateral program to minimize the negative impact of the cuts, especially on supply availability and service continuity.\n\nThe program implementation period was January to December each year, however, due to delays in finalizing the new agreement in 2024, and corresponding disbursement, the first installment (SEK 10 million) was not paid until November 2024. This resulted in significant delays in implementation. In consultation with DKT, the programs original 12 month timeline for 2024-2025 was revised to 14 months, covering 1 November 2024 to 31 December 2025.\n\nAnother major shift involved the temporary reallocation of program activities from North and South Kivu, initial focus areas due to escalating insecurity, to more stable provinces of Tshopo and Congo Central. This adjustment was proposed\nby DKT and approved by the Embassy on 25 March 2025. The programs core objectives remain unchanged:\n - Expanding access to SRHR commodities and services\n - Empowering communitybased service providers (Bees)\n - Strengthening GBV and comprehensive abortion care (CAC) services\n - Promoting longterm sustainability through Bee cooperatives\n\nKey adjustments include:\n- Reduced activities in volatile provinces\n - New performance targets in safer areas\n - Revised training and clinic support targets\n -Reallocation of training funds toward social marketing and awareness campaigns\n -Stronger media and digital engagement focus\n -Phased activities for demand generation, training, and RM&E (Results Monitoring & Evaluation)\n\nTraining budget was partially redirected to awareness campaigns. While this shift is justified within the current context, it should be noted that training tends to yield more sustainable long term outcomes. This tradeoff should be monitored\nclosely going forward.\n\nA field monitoring mission was conducted in Kinshasa on 17 July 2025, where four pharmacies and three health clinics collaborating with DKT were visited:\nPharmacies were wellstocked with DKTsupported SRHR products such as OK\nCondoms, NorLevo emergency contraceptives, lubricants, and implants.\nClinics visited included: Christina Clinic and Victoria Medical Center. \nService availability and visibility were assessed positively. \n\nAdditionally, four active Bee agents were interviewed. They reported making 10 12 household visits per day, offering SRHR counselling and referring clients to clinics and hospitals. This model remains a strong pillar of the programs\ndemand generation strategy.\n\nThe program includes a structured risk analysis, including three security scenarios with matching budget allocations. While generally well developed, several areas need strengthening:\nMitigation planning in newly added provinces could be more detailed\nSupply chain risks including delays in procurement and
