Föreslagen insats ska adressera bevarande av biologisk mångfald och koppla samman denna med kulturella perspektiv vilka bidrar till ett brett mål för att stärka och diversifiera lokalsamhällenas inkomstmöjligheter. \n\nInsatsen bygger på ABN´s existerande grundläggande arbete och fokuserar på fyra sammanlänkade program nämligen: 1) Lokalsamhällenas ekologiska styrning (Community Ecological Governance CEG)- En naturcentrerad process som ska återuppliva traditionell kunskap, praxis och styrningssystem för att återuppbygga samhällen 2) Försörjnings- och ekosystem kunskap i samhällena om fröer och sorter i samarbete med kvinnor, män och äldre för att återuppliva lokal traditionell frökunskap och liknande kunskap för att stärka frö och mat suveräniteten  och  återvinna den biologiska mångfalden. 3) Ungdomskultur och biologisk mångfald- sätta unga människor i kontakt med natur, kultur och sin roll i sammanhanget, 4) Stärkt nätverksbyggande, kommunikation och förespråkande av kulturell biologisk mångfald- nätverka med likasinnade  på individ- och organisationsnivå för att katalysera större aktivitet och influera  policies och allmänhetens uppfattning inom ekologi och socioekonomi som påverkar Afrika. De fyra tematiska områdena fokuserar i princip på att bemyndiga ursprungsbefolkningar och lokalsamhällen att återuppliva sin biokulturella mångfald  och skydda områden av ekologisk, spirituell, social och ekonomisk betydelse. ABN ska genomföra insatsen  tillsammans med genomförande partners i 20 afrikanska länder.\n\nTotalkostnaden för ABN´s föreslagna insats är nära 42 miljoner svenska kronor vilket indikeras i den bifogade budgetplanen (bilaga 2). ABN efterfrågar Sida´s finansiering för 34 procent av den totalakostnaden. Over 150 varieties of indigenous seeds were identified, recuperated, and preserved through community-driven initiatives. Six partners developed seed catalogues where documented some of these seeds (ABN Partners' Seed Catalogues - Google Drive). Farmers established 16 Community Learning Centers (CLCs) across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Gabon, Morocco, and Zimbabwe, serving as hubs for training and seed conservation. Over 9,000 households, many led by women, participated in agroecological farming practices, leading to enhanced food sovereignty and resilience against climate change. These achievements directly contributed to the conservation of bio-cultural diversity and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems by enhancing indigenous seed systems, strengthening food sovereignty, and preserving traditional knowledge critical to ecosystem health and resilience.\n\nOutcome 2: Strengthened Community Ecological Governance\n\nThe project empowered 95 communities across 14 countries to revive and strengthen traditional ecological governance. Through community dialogues, ecological mapping, and participatory resource management, communities reclaimed stewardship over Sacred Natural Sites (SNS) and territories. The project supported the Buliisa district communities to draft ordinances protecting SNS, while in Egypt, the renewal of the Lake Nasser bird hunting ban was celebrated as a major conservation victory. In Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Cameroon, traditional leadership structures were revitalized, with elders guiding sustainable land and watershed management practices. More than 50 community-driven ecological maps were created, showcasing past, present, and future visions of landscapes, enhancing ownership and advocacy power at local and national levels.\n\nOutcome 3: Youth Movement Established and Strengthened\n\nThroughout the three years, the project intentionally invested in building a strong, proactive youth movement committed to agroecology, conservation, and the revitalization of bio-cultural diversity. Over 4,000 youth actively engaged through various initiatives, including agroecology training, seed saving campaigns, tree planting activities, and nature excursions. Youth-led projects such as watershed management initiatives in Zimbabwe, establishment of agroecology demonstration farms in Tanzania, and seed preservation campaigns in Rwanda and Kenya demonstrated the growing agency of young leaders. A major milestone was achieved during the 2024 AgroBioCulture (ABC) Festival in Togo, which convened youth representatives from across Africa. A key highlight of the festival was the launch of the \"Youth Voices in Biodiversity and Agroecology in Africa\" reportcommissioned by ABN as a region-wide study on youth perspectives, challenges, and aspirations in biodiversity governance and agroecological transformation. The report amplified the voices of young people and emphasized their crucial role in shaping the future of agroecological and cultural resilience across the continent. Empowering youth to lead in agroecological transformation and biodiversity conservation nurtures a new generation of custodians who will sustain and advance efforts to restore terrestrial and marine ecosystems, ensuring long-term resilience and continuity of indigenous knowledge systems critical for life on land.\n\nOutcome 4: Enhanced Community-led Advocacy and Policy Influence\n\nAdvocacy was a cornerstone of the project, recognizing ABN's nature as a network deeply rooted in movement building. Over the three years, ABN and its partners implemented a range of strategic advocacy actions that significantly influenced biodiversity, food sovereignty, and community rights discourses both nationally and regionally. More than 40 advocacy campaigns and high-level engagements were initiated, covering issues such as protection of indigenous seeds, farmers' rights, land tenure, safeguarding Sacred Natural Sites (SNS), and climate justice. ABN partners were instrumental in lobbying during national dialogues on agroecology policies, biodiversity frameworks, and seed sovereignty legislations in countries like Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Benin, and Ethiopia. Through targeted engagements, ABN helped influence policy spaces at events like the Africa Climate Week, CBD COP forums, and local government processes. ABN also built strategic alliances with research institutions, policy advocacy groups, and farmer organizations, catalyzing coalitions that continue to drive systemic change in favor of agroecology and bio-cultural diversity conservation. By spearheading community-led advocacy and influencing policy processes, the project created enabling environments critical for the conservation of bio-cultural diversity, securing of farmers and indigenous peoples rights, and restoration of resilient terrestrial and marine ecosystems.\n\nOutcome 5: Strengthened ABN Networking and Practice of Methodologies\n\nThe strengthening of ABNs network and methodologies was fundamental to ensuring sustainability, cross-regional collaboration, and scaling impact. Throughout the three years, ABN successfully revitalized its Sub-Regional Nodes (SRNs)  East Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa, and North\u002FCentral Africa SRNs has been established as key coordination and learning platforms. Through SRN meetings, joint strategy sessions, thematic learning exchanges, and partner-led workshops, ABN fostered greater horizontal peer-to-peer learning across different countries.
