The contributions contributes in particula to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 16 and 5.\n\nThe Embassy has a positive experience from previous collaborations with Fojo and MRDI and believes that the results from previously supported program has been positive for media development and investigative journalism in Bangladesh. Their approach to underpin advocacy and their programmatic approach with research, among this a media viability study, has proven to be successful as to showcase the importance of digitalization and sustainibility lens of the media sector.\n\nThe overall goal of the contribution is to improve conditions for democracy, transparency, freedom of expression and gender equality by means of promoting and fostering a free, objective and skilled media sector in Bangladesh. Related set goals and activities are as follows; (1) Qualitative journalism; production of digging journalism that addresses societal social challenges with a sustainability lens. As a result, investigative outputs are prompting concrete actions by authorities to address corruption, environmental degradation, and other critical publicinterest issues.\n\nThe programme is also advancing gender equality within the media sector through the finalisation and dissemination of the Gender Charter of Commitment, now endorsed by 21 media houses. The Charter continues to gain traction within newsrooms and academic institutions. However, continued insistance is required to ensure that media houses actually implement the policy in their newsrooms.\n\nMental health remains a key priority, with the programme actively responding to needs expressed by media workers across Dhaka and the districts. Support ranges from individual assistance to journalists in distress, to the training of peer counsellors, and workshops addressing trauma associated with covering major accidents and disasters. This flexible and responsive approach ensures that media workers receive timely and relevant support.\n\nA critical gap in digital safety is being addressed through a partnership with Digitally Right, a Bangladeshi organisation specialising in digital and physical security for journalists. Nearly 80 journalists are receiving comprehensive training on digital protection measures, including how to prevent hacking and safeguard sensitive journalistic material. Additional support is provided through the Digital Safety School helpdesk, and a Resource Centre has been launched, offering 22 tools and guides to strengthen digital security practices across the sector.\n\nMedia outlets participating in the program are demonstrating clear behavioural change in their journalistic practices. Newsrooms are integrating forensic investigation techniques, datadriven visualisation, and regular multimedia productionmethods that were not common at the start of the initiative. Their adoption signals a significant shift in how investigative journalism is prioritised and executed.\n\nThe program is also catalysing behavioural change in how media actors approach financial sustainability. Several pilot projects are underway to test new business models, including paywalled editorial productsan important development in a sector traditionally reliant on large business conglomerates. The Daily Star is leading this shift by revising its IJP initiative to emphasise technological innovation. Its epaper is now behind a paywall and is attracting a healthy subscriber base despite limited marketing. The team is developing digital bundles that combine the epaper with specialised content such as literature and lifestyle features, with several bundles targeting female and younger audiences. The outlet has also launched Slow Readers, a longform section aimed at institutions and readers seeking deeper knowledge, which will also be placed behind a
