Not the least in Tunisia, but also in Yemen and in Syria where this synergy has played a significant role in amplifying public interest journalism and promoting civic engagement. A total of 48 partners (an increase from 2023 where 37 partners were supported) was subgranted. Throughout the report, there are numerous examples of how media outlets hold duty-bearers to account and expose corruption, abuses of power, and the consequences of inequality, in various cases through collaborations with international or civil society actors. \n\n- IMS continue to explore the impact of financial core support and how it can enhance partners income generation, in order to lead to financial sustainability. IMS focus on organisational capacity development and business viability showcase a series of results of how the program partners professionalized and optimized their organisations by requesting expert advising from IMS. 14 media content-producing partners improved their capacities and media viability through advisory support on organisational development, media business, content production, audience data, and DEI\u002Fgender equality. As an example; IMS partner Daraj was supported in developing and launching a crowd funding campaign by ensuring that the necessary technical setup was in place. This effort helped Daraj diversify its funding sources, leading to a 3.27% increase in revenue in 2024 compared to 2023, and is anticipated to be higher in 2025. Given the impact of the war in Lebanon on operations and staff well-being, this growth was an important step in maintaining financial stability and operational continuity. Another example is \n\n -2023 marked the first year for IMS to aggregate digital audience data - a result of dialogue between Sida and IMS. According to IMS, when comparing with other media development organisations, IMS is the first organisation to track annual audience data at partners organisational level. This is due to the modality of providing core funding in which IMS can harvest audience data on partners full media production (in contrast to providing financial support on specific themes and outputs). This continued in 2024, where 18 partners submitted data on audience interactions across four major platforms enabling IMS to assess not just reach, but also responsiveness to content strategies. All partners reported increases in audience on at least two platforms compared to 2023, reflecting positive momentum in audience connection and content resonance. \n\n-Tunisia has developed into a country where the government persistently discredits civil society to weaken its influence, violates human rights by expelling migrants to desert areas, silences dissent by imprisoning them, tolerates femicide, and suppresses independent media to the point of enforcing self-censorship. Over 30 journalists contributed to the investigation\u002Freport Abandoned in the desert: How Tunisia brutally deports migrants with EU support by Inkyfada - shedding light on abuses and attracting international attention on the responsibilities of both the Tunisian government and the European Union on forced expulsions for migrants. The reports impact was immediate. The European Ombudsman, Emily OReilly, criticised the European Commission for its lack of transparency on human rights risks linked to its migration deal with Tunisia, noting that no independent assessment had been conducted before signing the agreement in July 2023. In response to evidence that EU-funded security forces were implicated in migrant abuse, including sexual violence, the European Commission announced in January 2025 that it would review its financial support to Tunisia. Future payments will now be conditional on concrete human rights commitments. This in-depth investigation was recognised as one of the best investigations in French by the 2024 Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN).36 It was co-led by IMS partner Inkyfada in collaboration with Lighthouse Reports, The Washington Post, Der Spiegel, Enass Media, Le Monde, Irpi Media, Tagesschau, PorCausa and El País. \n\n- IMS MENA partners have been recognized with national and international awards, validating their impact and relevance. Another international recognition with highlighting to underscore the relevance of IMS partners and the quality content is also the work of IMS Documentary Film unit.
