Supported media diversified revenue streams and expanded audience engagement, strengthening their ability to operate independently during wartime. For example, New Voice stabilised its subscription model with monthly income reaching up to UAH 1.71 million (~366,300 SEK), while TEXTY expanded its audience by launching a YouTube channel that attracted over 13,000 subscribers and more than 500,000 views, enabling its investigations and analytical reporting to reach new audiences.\n\nLocal and hyperlocal media strengthened their editorial and organisational capacity to inform their communities. 30 local media outlets were supported by the project. Local media outlets, supported by partners ABO and Internews Ukraine, were supported by new approaches to content production, and audience engagement. Media teams were able to standardise their work with the Customer Management Service (CMS), Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), advertising, and analytics, but also to adopt new formats  from short vertical videos to extensive multimedia stories and solutions journalism.\n\nApart from classical information role, local media also helped mobilise communities, support civic initiatives, and strengthen social bonds during wartime. For instance, reporting by Hadyach.City increased the adoption of stray animals by 50%. Following an information campaign by FastivNews.City, local community participation in state-funded mammogram screenings increased by 25%. Also, media coverage helped launch a civic initiative to introduce a daily minute of silence in the city of Reni to honour fallen soldiers.\n\nIn 2025, thanks to agreement amendment and allocation of additional 10 MSEK, Internews was able to support 17 independent regional media outlets, enabling them to retain staff, strengthen revenue generation, and continue reporting in war-affected communities. By combining emergency assistance with measures to enhance financial resilience, this support helped to ensure the continued operation of trusted local media under challenging conditions. These sub-grants are still ongoing and will conclude in 2026. Some immediate results in 2025 are summarized below:\n\n- Media Na Mezhi achieved strong editorial and content distribution results despite high security challenges in the Sumy border region. The newsroom switched to a digital TV model and launched regular local video news production.\n\n- Hromadske Radio advanced its goal of providing independent information to residents in frontline, border, and temporarily occupied areas. With seven FM transmitters operating across Ukraine, SUMS support ensured continuous broadcasting despite the loss of nine transmitters in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Broadcasts remained stable even amidst active shelling in some regions. It was confirmed that Hromadske Radio is accessible in temporary occupied regions. \n\n- Trybuna.Sumy made significant progress in improving its website accessibility and content production and increased its visibility among local audiences. Trybuna.Sumy became the first outlet in the Sumy region to offer full accessibility on web and mobile, setting a regional benchmark for inclusive digital journalism. \n\n- Realna Gazeta strengthened the availability of reliable information about life in the temporary occupied territories of eastern Ukraine and the challenges faced by IDPs. Realna Gazeta remains one of very few outlets covering the life of Ukrainians in the occupied territories. The outlets content and expertise were cited by both Ukrainian and international media, including CBS News. \n\nSpecific objective 2: Build local media capacity in gender sensitive reporting and core journalist skills\n\nVolyn Press Club has strengthened gender sensitivity in local media outlets. 5 outlets developed their gender policies from scratch, 5 others strengthened existing ones.
