In doing so, it develops the capacities of women cross border traders and private sectors actors to be more involved in peace and security issues and promotes inclusive economic growth to bridge the economic inequalities that contribute to conflict.\n\nThe innovation Alert wants to introduce in this phase is that support to WCBT (women cross border traders) will no longer go through the implementing partners\u002Fa project but through the CBTA-Ps (Cross border trade Association Platform) directly in order to strengthen the sustainability of support to WCBT. In Rwanda, the first activity will consist of securing a legal recognition for the CBTA-P. Tailored support to CBTA-Ps will be provided through an MoU so that they become autonomous in the following areas.\n\n- Providing training services and tools to their members: A unit in charge of capacity building will be set-up in each CBTA-P so that they are able to provide capacity building services directly to their members. The CBTA-P will provide capacity building services on different themes and tools developed in phase I such as the gender and conflict sensitivity curriculum, the financial literacy module, B4P, etc. The capacity of the members of this unit will be strengthened so that they are able to develop trainings activities and support members with the use of tools. Thus, at the end of the project, the CBTA-Ps will be able to strengthen the capacities of the WCBT without the support of the MSL project.\n\n- Structuring of WCBT  and support to access to funding: The CBTA-Ps will also continue to support access to funding for WCBT through the structuring of the VSLAs. In addition, the project will support the CBTA-Ps to develop partnerships with MFIs and to provide advice to their members on how to access MFIs services. This partnership will also enable the CBTA-Ps to become a credible partner for MFIs who can recommend WCBT to MFIs and thereby facilitate their access to credit.\n\nConducting advocacy activities: The Advocacy Platforms structured in the phase I project will be integrated as a unit of the CBTA-P in charge of advocacy. The project has contributed to sustainable economic growth and social cohesion in grassroot in the Great Lakes region through targeted training, advocacy, and innovative economic initiatives.\n\nKey achievements include:\n\n- Small-scale cross-border traders have been identified and registered in a single database of 6,681 traders and 1,159 young entrepreneurs. For the inclusion of Twas (Pygmies) in Burundi among the beneficiaries during the first phase;\n- Transparent and inclusive partner selection, involving five Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), five Platforms of Cross-Border Traders' Associations (P-ACT), and two Private Sector Federations.\n- Empowerment of women and young people, with 6,681 traders and 1,159 young entrepreneurs registered in a database.\n- The training and capacity-building sessions on transformational leadership and governance, financial management and accountability, and structuring and running the AVECs (Village Savings and Credit Association) reached 454 beneficiaries, including 344 WCBT leaders and 110 young entrepreneurs, with an overall progress rate 2 of 72% (including 80% in Burundi and 58% in the DRC). And as part of the drive to make P-ACT (Cross Border Trade Association Platform) more self-sufficient and provide sustainable, high-quality services to WCBTs, the P-ACT in the DRC and Burundi trained 261 beneficiaries, including 19 young entrepreneurs, 235 WCBTs and seven Platform Leaders.\n- Capacity-building sessions reaching 454 beneficiaries, including Women Cross Border Traders leaders and young entrepreneurs;\n- Following training in the financial education programme, 10 trainers have been certified and were now able to supervise other multipliers. 72 multipliers have been trained and certified, enabling them to disseminate the knowledge they have acquired in their communities and preventing embezzlement and harassment;\n- Reorganization and professionalization of cross-border trader associations, enhancing transparency and autonomy;\n\n- The MSL II project supported entrepreneurial initiatives and financial empowerment by organizing a business plan competition in which 11 cooperatives were rewarded for their innovative ideas, with a total prize of $29,610. The prize money benefited 555 members of these cooperatives (284 in Rwanda and 271 in the DRC): Local production of soya and maize flour (Uvira, DRC): boosting food self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on imports. Local production of poultry feed (Goma, DRC): reducing production costs and empowering farmers. Floating cage fish farming (Rwanda): improving local nutrition and creating jobs; \n\nOverall, the MSL II project has fostered structured and inclusive cross-border trade to become a vector for peace
