Improved access to SRHR information and services: CPSE is testing a mentorship-based post-abortion care and post-rape care quality improvement model in Kilifi County, in Kenya (20 mentors, 95 mentees), institutionalizing continuous skills transfer and strengthening facility readiness. Following the Kilifi County training, mentors in Malindi mobilized community health promoters to address fear and awareness barriers among survivors of sexual violence, increasing local knowledge of available services and enhancing community level improvements. Strategic media engagement amplified evidence on contraceptive stock-outs, prompting policy attention. Dialogue with county leaders led to concrete commitments to strengthen post-abortion care and post-rape services.\n\n2. Enhanced social inclusion and well-being: CPSE launched an intervention study that is supporting adolescent mothers in Nairobi's informal settlements with cash transfers, life skills training, and childcare support. CPSE also advanced its work around the inclusion of sexual and gender minorities by strengthening advocacy skills of staff working with civil society organizations in 4 Kenyan counties and influencing public discourse grounded in APHRC evidence. For example, in Rwanda, dialogue workshops involving policymakers, law enforcement, health providers, parents, community leaders, and media actors led parents to acknowledge household stigma and express willingness to adopt more supportive behaviors, including deeper family level engagement to reduce stigma toward sexual and gender minorities communities.\n\n3. Domestication and implementation of SRHR laws, policies and commitment: CPSE evidence shaped national legislation in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Kenya including contributing to the Kilifi Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Children and Adolescent Health Act (2025). At regional platforms (EAC, AU, SADC), APHRC provided technical input on SRHR bills, gender based violence data systems, the integration of comprehensive sexuality education, harmful practices, and reproductive justice frameworks.\n\n4. Increased evidence demand and use by policy actors: Policy actors actively sought APHRC's expertise to guide lawmaking, policy review, research agenda setting, national survey design, and advocacy messaging. Advisory roles with the WHO, UNDP, SADC, and EAC embedded APHRC within formal decision-making structures. Media professionals and civil society organizations were trained to generate and apply evidence in advocacy, improving the quality of public discourse and institutionalizing data-driven advocacy.\n\n5. Strengthened capacity of civil society partners to advance SRHR programs and advocacy: Youth-led and civil society partners secured new funding (e.g., USD 75,000 for Kilifi youth-led advocacy), institutionalized outcome harvesting, redesigned community programs using CPSE evidence, and enhanced coordination on SRHR policy and financing.
