It is therefore to early to publish any results.\n________________________________________________\nProject results achieved during the 2024 period:\nThe Waste Management Communication Campaign project aimed to improve waste management through strategic communication capacity building, public awareness campaigns, and pilot initiatives, during the 2024 period, has achieved progress in all four of its objectives: mapping the existing waste management system, enhancing expertise among local public authorities (LPAs) and civil society organizations (CSOs), increasing public awareness of waste reduction, and implementing pilot projects to encourage waste reduction and reuse.\n\nThe summary of the achievements within all 4 objectives are the following:\n\nA communication platform was established, engaging 208 participants, primarily mayors and civil servants, through three workshops on landfill regulations, waste management program development, and enforcement of waste policies. Capacity-building activities included eight training sessions for LPAs, study visits to well-managed waste facilities, and a Zero Waste Training Program for experts. Technical assistance was provided for developing Local Waste Management Plans (LWMPs) for Clrai, Manta, and Sculeni, with completion expected by early 2025. Within the project, 80 activities (of varying complexity) were organized with the involvement of over 3,500 people from the three project regions.\n\nPilot projects included the establishment of 14 Upcycling centres and 12 Repair Cafés, where pupils, teachers, and community members learned to repurpose and repair household items. Additionally, an online waste management course trained more than 146 participants in sustainable practices in waste management. Learning through games involved 12 (9 financed by FNM and 3 by SIDA) training sessions on waste reduction for schools, engaging 224 students and 171 teachers, alongside the distribution of educational materials. Over 22 videos were created and widely shared across social media platforms. Initiatives such as Clean-Up Days in 37 localities, including more than 1300 participants, plogging events, and community-driven mural projects reinforced behavioral change at the grassroots level.\n\nIn a country like Moldova, which has neglected the issue of waste management for 30 years, unified communication efforts are needed, which must be done in the long term, with strategic information and education campaigns. It is particularly important to approach the Waste Hierarchy correctly, generally done in five steps, that helps individuals and businesses make more eco-friendly choices, with the right focus on Prevention, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Dispose. The entire communication campaign in the project was based on the first three stages of the Waste Hierarchy, although it was initially planned to be correlated with the infrastructure created in the Solid Waste Program in the three regions.\n\nLessons learned highlighted the need for stronger inter-institutional collaboration, cooperation between ministries (Economy, Education, Environment) & CSOs, necessary clearer regulations on waste reduction, composting, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), and sustained advocacy efforts to support policy change. Moving forward, the project aims to enhance leadership coordination, expand awareness efforts, and implement long-term waste prevention strategies.\n___________________________________________________________________________________________________\nProject results achieved during the 2025 period:\nThe majour results achieved under objective 1:\n- A structured field data collection process was implemented across Waste Management Regions (WMR) 5, 8, and 1 following the revision and validation of bilingual research tools and the training of local data collectors.\n- Two major guidance resources were fi nalized and offi cially published, strengthening institutional capacity of LPAs nationwide.\n- Also, 27 representatives of regional CSOs participated in specialized training, resulting in 8 local project proposals, of which 6 were selected for mini-grant funding to be awarded in 2026.\n\nThe majour results achieved under objective 2:\n- Besides, strengthened institutional readiness for implementation of the new Law on the Public Sanitation Service entering into force in July 2026, the project also organised a study visit to the Compost Academy in Bucharest engaged 18 participants (including 14 LPA representatives) and demonstrated that landfil waste could potentially be reduced by up to 50% through composting solutions.\n- Technical assistance provided by the project resulted in the approval of three Local Waste Management Programs (Clrai, Manta, Sculeni) and the initiation of another (Cupcini).\n\nThe majour results achieved under objective 3:\n- Outreach and awareness actions reached a wide and diverse audience. The Moldova Fr Deeuri Caravan delivered 10 regional sessions with 249 participants, generating concrete follow-up initiatives such as school-led composting projects. The project supported 26 localities in organizing World Cleanup Day actions, supplying materials and guidance. Two editions of the online course La Limita Deeurilor trained 71 certifi ed participants, many of whom now act as local multipliers. Communication outputs included 4 quarterly magazine editions, multiple national and regional media articles, and a pilot LED awareness campaign across 5 cities, which generated approximately 7,800 targeted content views on practical recycling information. A local recycling pilot in Ungheni tested behavioural engagement tools such as door-to-door outreach and digital community groups.\n\nThe majour results achieved under objective 4:\n- The project strengthened circular economy pilot initiatives in education. An assessment was conducted across 10 benefi ciary institutions equipped with reuse and upcycling tools, followed by additional resource mobilization, practical workshops, and faradeseuri.md 2\nintegration of benefi ciaries into national knowledge-exchange platforms.
