The areas covered for this project is Kasai with 18 HZ, Congo Central with 6 HZ and Maniema 18 HZ.  Best practices and methods developed in with this project will also benefit the country at large, through  research and training, especially since SANRU collaborates with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Higher and University Education (MESU), and the Congolese Society of Midwives (SCOSAF), with a view to contributing to the reduction of maternal, neonatal, infant and adolescent morbidity and mortality in the DRC by introducing  the WHO Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health (20162030) in French: la Stratégie mondiale pour la santé de la femme, de l'enfant et de l'adolescent (SRMNEA). \n\nDuring 2025, several visits was made to SANRU cliques and midwife school as well as participating at the ceremony for the new midwives graduating in May,\nwith the Swedish Ambassador Joakim Vaverka, and Amina Jama programme officer for health. The report for results in 2025 will be received in April 2026, but\nthrough visits and the presentation made at the annual meeting some concrete results were conveyed as per below: 195 midwives are expected to be trained by the end of the project. So far, there are 25 in Kimpese, 60 in Kindu, and 55 in Tshikapa, making a total of 140 midwives ready and working. An additional 55 are currently in training in Tshikapa they will graduate in spring 2026. A mission was undertaken to Congo Central in May 2025 for the celebration of the graduating midwifes. \n\nThe Research Capacity Building component aiming at strengthening midwifery education, SRHR research skills, and women's health in the DRC in collaboration with IPAS and Karolinska Institute (KI) is progressing well (contracts signed between the partners). KI is also assisting to develop and apply research principles and ethical study design, as well as develop protocols and collect data analyze and interpret data. In order for more midwifes and doctor to conduct research and write and submit scientific articles as well as develop PhD project plans for selected candidates. Running from October to March, the capacity building combines in person and online workshops, mentorship, and peer writing groups, using collaborative learning, structured feedback, and practical exercises to prepare participants to produce research outputs.\n\nIn 2025, a kickoff training workshop took place in Kinshasa bringing together midwifery teachers from SCOSAF, ISTM Kinshasa, ISTM Kimpese, and Kindu,\nwith participants from the provinces of Maniema, Kasai and Kongo Central (Matadi) joining online. In total, 14 participants attended in person in Kinshasa,\nwhile provincial offices were filled with doctors and midwives participating virtually. Key research areas were addressed such as SRHR for young people,\nabortion care, menstrual health, and professional development within midwifery. Professor Marie Klingberg Allvin and Dr. Eva Åkerman, Public health research\nspecialist, from Karolinska Institutet provided highly appreciated interventions on the topics Research and SRHR in Practice: Strengthening Midwifery and\nWomen's Health in the DRC, and the Midwives Role in Sexual and Reproductive Health: A Global Perspective as well as Comprehensive Menstrual Health management. \n\nSome of the results achieved in 2024 was to supply the clinics in Congo Central with essential medicines as well as ensuring that 42,756 deliveries where carried out from January to July 2024, in all the 3 provinces (13,222 in Maniema, 14,111 in Kongo Central and 15,423 in Kasai). Overall, in all the Health Care Establishments (ESS) supported in the 3 provinces there is good coverage of assisted childbirth, the quarterly average of which remains above that of the national level and the objectives set by the provinces  Indeed, 42,220 deliveries benefited from the services of qualified personnel (12,959 in Maniema, 13,982 in KongoCentral and 15,279 in Kasai) \n\nOverall, for all three provinces, in the ESS supported by the Bomoyi project,46,323 women (15,490 in Kasaï, 14,306 in  Congo Central and 16,527 in Maniema) accessed  Prenatal Consultations (ANC1) services between January and July 2024 (Antenatal care coverage (at least one visit) is referred to as ANC1). Among the women using ANC alone, 57.2% of them, 25,855 women (12,386 in Kasai, 3,315 in Congo Central and 10,154 in Maniema), used ANC1 in the 16th week of pregnancy, this tells us that there is a lot of awareness raising work to be done in order to improve the use of ANC services to ensure that near 100 procent of women use ANC services. The provinces of Congo Central and Maniema are most affected by this poor performance, as shown in the results reported by Sanru and referenced below. Operational research will be carried out to identify the determinants of the late onset of ANC in pregnant women in the areas supported. \n\nThe results below were reported by Sanru for the fist 10 month of implementation and can be found in their report, some are highlighted here: \nIn regards to ANC: For all 130 ESS supported by the project 46,323 women (15,490 in Kasaï, 14,306 in KongoCentral and 16,527 in Maniema) used the services of Prenatal Consultation 1 from January to July 2024, an average of 103%. Among these women, 25,855 women ( 12,386 in Kasaï, 3,315 in Congo Central and 10,154 in Maniema) used ANC1 in the 16th week of pregnancy ( 57.2% ). Organization of the basic survey in the province of Congo Central Organization of the monitoring mission for project implementation in the 3 provinces of Kasaï,, Congo Central and Maniema in order to secure baseline date some of this data shared below, more available in the report from Sanru. Monitoring of SRMNEA indicators: From January to July 2024, in all the ESS supported by Bomoyi2 73 maternal deaths occured (6 in Kasai, 46 in Congo Central and 21 in Maniema), i.e. an average rate of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births estimated respectively at 39.26 for Kasai, against 331.94 for Congo Central and 160.51 for Maniema.\n\nNotification and Support of Survivors of Sexual Violence (SVS) with the PEP Kit: Overall, the project was notified of 814 cases of SVS in total (including 211 in Congo Central, 184 in Kasaï and 419 in Maniema) of which 376 received the PEP kits within 72 hours (127 in KC, 76 in Kasaï and 173 in Maniema), i.e. 46.2% completion which indicates that more outreach needs to be undertaken in order to be able to distribute more PEP kits within the 72 hours
