The Engaged Citizens Reporting (ECR) tool developed to gather information from the public generated articles in North Macedonia. \n- BIRN one of very few organisations reporting on digital rights in the region (Reporting Digital Rights and Freedoms) with its most recent annual report (December 2023) documenting 1 427 digital rights violation cases. \n- BIRN Serbia contributed to public discussions on new media legislation, including submitting amendments to the Law on Public Information.\n- BIRN maintain and update six databases that monitors media ownership, and expanded their use for education, research and advocacy.\n\nResults from 2024\nBIRN's investigative journalism was widespread and well-known. BIRN's work has had a demonstrated effect on the ground and at times have lead to, or at least contributed to, changes visible in the society, such as exposed high-level corruption leading to imprissonment or judicial processes being initiated, cleaning of illeagal dumps, opening critical discussions and leading to political demands, revised decisions by institutions, institutional changes within Europol. \n\nBIRN's work was used by civil society for further advocacy work and awareness raising. Investigations have sparked action from civil society such as sending petitions, legal actions, and broad public campaigning. Exhibitions by BIRN have spurred public interest and requests for more information. Research and investigations have also led to development of policy papers and recommendations, for instance BIRN Montenegro on assets declaration of public officials with special emphasis on crypto and digital assets. \n\nBIRN has built capacity for local media and the network has participated in and contributed to cross-border investigations. \n\nKey results 2024 include:\n- 26 140 articles \n-
