Anchored in the Essential Package of Health Services (EPHS), CHASP III focuses on sustaining and expanding access to reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent health and nutrition (RMNCAHN) services across 77 public health facilities in 13 fragile districts in Jubaland, Galmudug, and Puntland states. It targets a population of 1,145,420 people (161,504 boys, 182,122 girls, 304,682 men, and 497,112 women). The program is implemented by Save the Children in partnership with state and federal Ministries of Health (MoH), through three interlinked outcomes:\n\n- Continued provision of the EPHS, including nutrition, integrated community case management (ICCM), and with increased investment in SGBV prevention, family planning and other reproductive health services.\n\n- Enhanced governance capacity of MoH to sustain equitable and resilient health systems;\n\n- Strengthened community structures to ensure ownership, inclusive participation, equitable access, and service utilization.\n\nSomalias complex humanitarian and political landscape in 20242025 continues to pose significant challenges, including severe drought in 2024 followed by flash floods in early 2025, which killed 17 people, and displaced over 84,000 people in regions such as Jubaland, Hirshabele, South- West, Galmudug, Puntland States and Banadir region, disrupting access in districts like Dhobley and Afmadhow where medical supplies could not be delivered due to flooded roads and airstrip. Meanwhile, the countrys security landscape continues to deteriorate with conflict-related displacements driven by intensified Al-Shabaab activity, government offensives against Non-State Actors, the ATMIS transition to AUSSOM, and deepening rifts between the Federal government and Federal member states, driving the majority of internal displacements in 2024. Military operations in Puntland against Islamic State (IS), restricting access to 23 CHASP-supported facilities in Qandala, Iskushuban, and Alula for Quarter one of 2025. \n\n\n\nKey Achievements Summary\n\nDespite these challenges, CHASP maintained comprehensive service delivery through decentralized delivery, community engagement, and adaptive crisis response reaching a total beneficiary of 556,765 (115,641 boys, 124,021 girls, 117,887 men, 199,216 women) against a target of 1,145,420 individuals.\n\nA total of 525,079 beneficiaries (104,561 boys, 110,299 girls, 116,603 men, 193,616 women) accessed health services, including outpatient consultations, maternal and child health care, skilled birth attendance (SBA), immunizations, and Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC). The integrated delivery of nutrition services remained a cornerstone of the program.\n\nNotably, 13,635 children (6,688 boys, 6,947 girls) were treated for Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), and 9,379 children (4,162 boys, 5,217 girls) for Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) achieving 107% and 108% of the annual targets respectively. Additionally, 3,788 pregnant and lactating women (PLW) received nutrition treatment.\n\nIntegrated Community Case Management (iCCM) contributed to early detection and treatment of common childhood illnesses such as malaria, pneumonia, and acute watery diarrhea, reaching 19,838 children in rural and hard to reach areas. The ICCM health workers (Family Health Workers) also screened 1,073 children for malnutrition and linked them to CHASP-supported facilities, demonstrating effective referral systems and bridging the gap between the rural communities and the health facilities\n\nAccess to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, including family planning and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STI), improved significantly. 862 mothers commenced family planning, with 101 adolescent mothers (under age 18) among them. The program also supported 321 survivors of SGBV and child protection violations (231 girls, 90 boys), offering comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and legal referral support. Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) training was delivered to 52 frontline staff (34 female, 18 male), enhancing the quality of GBV survivor care and aligning with national response frameworks.\n\nEnvironmental sustainability was advanced through the installation of solar energy systems in four additional clinics, bringing the total number of green clinics to 26 (34% of total). Over 400 trees were planted, and waste management systems were repaired in 11 facilities to ensure safe disposal of infectious medical waste.\n\nProgress in the transition plan for the selected district hospitals through innovative financing approaches, including the development of state-led cost recovery policies aimed at enhancing sustainable service delivery and increased health resilience as external support is gradually reduced.\n\nA Health Financing Advocacy Conference was held in Garowe, Puntland (April 2025), convening policymakers, donors, and health experts. The conference aimed to create a platform for stakeholders to explore a predictable and longer-term financing mechanism for health and reduce donor dependency. The event generated actionable commitments and policy recommendations including earmarked taxes for health (sin tax on khat, tobacco, certain cosmetics), social health insurance scheme and the promotion of public-private partnerships including the introduction of targeted cost recovery mechanisms at health facilities.",{"title":287,"description":289,"measure":291,"ascending":206},{"narrative":288},"Not applicable",{"narrative":290},"No indicator available -
