The participants in the sustained dialogues are now better prepared to continue to promote peace and build social cohesion among civil society in Sudan and in exile. \n\nSustained Dialogue and healing architecture: In 2025, 8 dialogue groups ran across 4 locations (Nairobi, Kampala, Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, and Atbara, River Nile State, Sudan), engaging 96 participants (49 women, 47 men) through 134 sessions and an estimated 268 hours of dialogue. 12 linked trainings were delivered across 7 locations, reaching 155 participants over 63 training days. A draft manual in Arabic on the Sustained Dialogue method and accompanying curriculum were developed, giving the methodology a more durable institutional form.\n\nBehavioural and relational change among participants: Moderators and participants reported improved psychosocial wellbeing, rebuilt trust, and a strengthened sense of individual and collective identity. Participants described forming \"alternative families\" and contributing to communal initiatives such as shared kitchens and peer fundraising. One woman moderator in Kampala described the approach as enabling people to \"see difference in a new light\" and opening the way for \"deep human relationships.\" A young man in Kiryandongo noted that following sessions, community members began visiting and checking on each other in ways that had not occurred before. (Annual Report 2025; UM2024\u002F14498\u002FADDI-29; p. 12-14)\n\nDialogue applied to resolve real community conflicts: In July 2025, during clashes between Sudanese and South Sudanese refugees in Kiryandongo that left one person dead, a project-trained participant introduced the \"White Line\" trauma dialogue exercise at a Sudanese CSO coordination meeting in Kampala, de-escalating tensions and enabling a coordinated Emergency Response Room to be established. In Atbara, Sustained Dialogue participants facilitated a structured process that resolved long-standing disagreements between veteran and new ERR volunteers, strengthening collaboration. These examples demonstrate that the project is generating deployable peacebuilding practice, not just enhanced confidence or knowledge. (Annual Report 2025; UM2024\u002F14498\u002FADDI-29)\n\nExpansion beyond planned locations (unexpected result): In August, two Nairobi-based dialogue moderators independently travelled to Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya  not a planned project location  and initiated healing-centred Sustained Dialogue for approximately 12,000 Sudanese refugees. Participants launched a cross-ethnic youth initiative, \"Opening the Way for Youth,\" demonstrating the organic spread of the methodology. (Annual Report 2025; UM2024\u002F14498\u002FADDI-29)\n\nUnder outcome 2, the below results have contributed to a society characterised by peace through preparing civil society members for participation in high level mediation efforts, where community voices will be crucial to ensure sustainable peace. LPI has also created new methods for peace dialogue, making the dialogues more inclusive.\n\nAdvocacy and participation in formal processes: Individual LPI alumni, partners, and project participants engaged in high-level forums to some extent. LPI lists the following examples: a Sustained Dialogue alumna from Khartoum University spoke at a high-level EU panel on Women, Peace and Security, influencing discussions among Political and Security Committee ambassadors and senior EU officials. A youth participant from the Nairobi Sustained Dialogue was invited by CMI to prepare for the Quintet peace process (later cancelled). LPI identified 4 Sudanese civil society actors to brief MFA and Embassy delegates in Addis Ababa on upcoming peace processes. At the Peace Connect Conference in Nairobi, Waey's Executive Director presented a video on Sudanese women refugees, reaching 500 global peacebuilders. LPI's Sudan Country Manager met with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and held consultations with the UN Secretary-General's office. (Annual Report 2025; UM2024\u002F14498\u002FADDI-29)\n\nTheatre-based peace dialogue as a new methodology: The Sudan Café theatre sessions proved particularly effective in opening politically sensitive discussions on peace talks, representation, and the role of civil society in mediation, enabling participants to move toward more shared positions. (Travel Report Kampala 2025; UM2024\u002F14498\u002FADDI-36)\n\nA society where a vibrant and independent civil society operates freely and safely\n\nUnder outcome 1 and 2 the below results have made it possible for sudanese civil society in exile to operate freely and safely, through creation of platforms and venues.\n\nPartner organisational development: LPI enabled partner organisations Waey and SalaaMedia to function as convening hubs for Sudanese civil society, journalists, artists, and academics. (Annual Report 2025; UM2024\u002F14498\u002FADDI-29)\n\nSudan Cafés and collective analysis: 14 Sudan Café forums engaged 331 activists (160 women, 171 men) and generated two knowledge products: \"Voices for Peace\" and \"Dictionary of the April 15 War.\" Topics covered included justice and human rights accountability, war trauma and hate speech, conflict language and terminology, theatre-based peace dialogue, and freedom of expression. These forums created an architecture of collective analysis and network-building among displaced Sudanese actors. (Annual Report 2025; UM2024\u002F14498\u002FADDI-29)\n\nCivil society hubs: Two civil society hubs were established in Kampala and Nairobi, bringing together actors from human rights, media, women's rights, psychosocial support, and research backgrounds. Labs (Nairobi) now voluntarily hosts a wide range of Sudanese civil society activities, including a monthly Women's Bazaar supporting displaced Sudanese women entrepreneurs, the Hajwa initiative for Sudanese children, and Sudanese journalist activities  creating a connective ecosystem in exile. A Code of Conduct framework was developed to safeguard inclusivity. (Annual Report 2025; UM2024\u002F14498\u002FADDI-29)\n\nPlatform development: Three platform processes were recorded in Kampala, Nairobi, and Eastern Sudan, engaging 47 actors. (Annual Report 2025; UM2024\u002F14498\u002FADDI-29)\n\nA society that guarantees freedom of expression, freedom of the press and access to independent information, including in digital media\n\nProgress on Outcome 3 which is focused on peace dialogue through digital media remains formative but with some notable early results. The Africa Rises youth campaign, in which a project-supported moderator participated, reaches 46,000 followers. SalaaMedia's \"I Am Peace\" digital radio has attracted 15,000 followers, contributing to pro-peace rhetoric. SalaaMedia's \"Knowledge Magazine\" was published. Nine video episodes were developed from the dialogue and trauma-recovery curriculum to make the methodology publicly accessible. Sudan Café sessions on hate speech and freedom of expression produced practical recommendations for responsible media practice.
