During the first six months of implementation, 1 July - 31 December 2026, Sida support financed core protection activities, including registration and documentation, refugee status determination, targeted protection services, capacity development, and return-related counselling and assistance. At the same time, the programme includes support to the underlying systems and operational capacities required to deliver protection at scale, reinforcing coordination mechanisms etc. The UNHCR MENA programme contributed to broader operational outcomes across the region by sustaining the systems underpinning access to protection and services. Across multiple operations, including Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and Jordan, Sida support helped maintain core registration, documentation, case management, and referral systems in contexts of high demand and constrained resources. At the broader operational level, UNHCR delivered large-scale results during the reporting period. For example in Egypt, over 325,000 individuals obtained civil status, identity or legal documentation, as well as continued system-wide delivery of registration, asylum procedures, and protection services across North Africa and key refugee-hosting countries.\n\nExamples of results as a direct result of Sida funding: \n\n-  Sida-supported interventions directly contributed to the registration of 11,009 individuals in Morocco, significantly exceeding planned targets, while also sustaining core registration and documentation systems across other operations under conditions of high demand and constrained resources.\n\n- Sida support enabled continued access to asylum procedures in complex operational contexts, including 734 refugee status determination decisions in Morocco and 529 in Algeria, with prioritization of vulnerable cases. \n\n- Sida funding supported both country-level coordination and regional system development. This included the organization of 19 coordination meetings and retreats in Morocco, as well as regional capacity development efforts, notably the training of 42 UNHCR staff and the establishment of a regional capacity development framework to support future engagement with national authorities.\n\n- Sida-supported activities ensured the continuation of specialized protection services in constrained environments, including 46 individuals accessing psychosocial support and 46 benefiting from complementary GBV services in Algeria, alongside strengthened referral pathways and integration of GBV risk mitigation across UNHCR operations.\n\n-Sida support contributed to improved access to essential services. 9,366 individuals were informed about access to healthcare services and 1,997 received specialized healthcare support in Algeria, while 1,531 children accessed education programmes, supporting inclusion in national systems despite structural barriers.\n\n-  Sida funding contributed to strengthening institutional capacities, including the training of 138 government officials in Egypt, exceeding targets and supporting the foundations for expanded inclusion programming.\n\n- Sida-supported activities enabled large-scale, protection-centred return processes, including: 6,975 individuals receiving return counselling in Iraq, 6,430 in Jordan, and 400 in Egypt, 4,055 individuals receiving transportation support in Jordan, 450 refugees assisted to return in Yemen, and 439 individuals supported through return processes in Libya, exceeding planned
