The PGA has about 1000 members from 150 countries in all parts of the world. The PGA mobilizes parliamentarians who advocate for human rights and the rule of law, democracy, human security, inclusion, gender equality and justice, including climate justice and the environment. This is done through training, awareness-raising, building technical capacity and strengthening the capacity of parliamentarians to take ownership, initiative and legislative action. This effort aims to strengthen the rights of LGBTQI+ people at the national level. The programme works to strengthen democratic resilience and counteract the global democratic backlash and the emergence of anti-rights movements. This one-year programme focuses on parliamentarians, i.e. policymakers, and thus well positioned to translate international human rights commitments into concrete parliamentary action at the national level. The aim of the programme is concrete results at the national level to improve the lives of LGBTQI+ people and human rights defenders. The programme will 1) organise strategic parliamentary gatherings to share good practices and build a regional and international network; 2) develop methods to provide sustainability beyond the one-year programming period; and 3) arrange dialogue between parliamentarians and civil society.
