Personnel to the UN mission in the Central African Republic, MINUSCA

The Swedish Police Authority has been assigned by the government, through the ordinance on police peace support (1999:1155) and yearly regulation letters, to recruit and make personnel available for international civilian crisis management and peace support operations under the auspices of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), the Organisation for Security and Cooperation i Europe(OSCE) or similar organisations. The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) is one of the operations to which the Swedish Police Authority contributes with personnel. The seconded personnel assist in the implementation of the missions' mandate which primarily involves providing expertise, training and capacity building to stabilise and develop police organisations in conflict and post-conflict environments, and promote security sector reform to ensure the upholding of the rule of law. The missions' activities include training on methods of democractic policing with a focus on improving the police's role to uphold the well-being of the citizens, capacity building on gender equality, and advice on developing a human rights based approach to policing.
