Result
The MUHAS proposal Strengthening Research, Training, and Innovation for Sustainable Development aims to: To address health challenges through contextualized innovations, research, and training of a quality workforce for sustainable development. The overarching objective will be achieved through the implementation of the following five specific objectives: 1) Optimize research and training capacity targeting to improve the control and management of Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) with new tools and strategies in Tanzania; 2) Improve research training capacity for the control of HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and other Infectious Diseases in Tanzania; 3) Strengthen research and training capacity in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) and to build capacity and skills for research training in RMNCAH; 4) Gather evidence and design cost-effective strategies for strengthening the Health Systems for Universal Health Coverage (UHC); 5) Enhance capacity for Research, Training, and Innovation, including strengthening Library and Information Communication and Technology (ICT) support. Expected outcomes: In a period of six (6) years, the proposed program will train a total of 16 new PhD students, and support the four ongoing students to completion of their studies. Along with the training, strengthened research training capacity in the four thematic areas as well as enhanced Universitys capacity for Research, Training, and Innovation, including to strengthen Library and ICT support. These efforts and outcomes are geared to place the University at a higher global ranking and a self-sustaining research university. The proposed Program aims at consolidating research capacity at MUHAS, and aim to develop stronger, resilient, and sustainable research infrastructure that can stimulate innovative research, in keeping with epidemiological transition, and open to more research and training collaborations. Moving forward, MUHAS is determined to cement onto its ambitions in excelling in research by attracting, promoting and facilitating investment in different areas. MUHAS, in line with its vision to attain the University Research status aims to make meaningful contributions to the realization of the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 for quality livelihood for all, and the Sustainable Development Goal number three ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages by 2030.
