Result
Overarching results. - 6,220 (55% being women and youth) recorded an increase in their monthly incomes. Incomes of women increased by 123% from an average of RWF.23,703 to 52,940. Men's income increase reached RWF.62,161 (87% increase) - 2,079 individuals increased control of income or assets. 4,850 jobs were strengthened or created (56% being women and youth related) - 10,184 recorded an increase in their resilience score. - An estimated 60MTCo2 Emissions were avoided, reduced or sequestered - Agent model 20,117 prospective agents trained (59% being women and youth). - Part of portfolio building the programme has formed 9 partnerships with the private sector actors, securing a total co-investment of USD. 673,083. Systemic results these are presented using the Adopt Adapt Expand & Respond (AAER) Framework. 1- Adoption. - Through OX intervention, OX Rwanda has expanded its network by adding over 90 Agro dealers across three additional districts. - Husbands' perceptions of their wives working as agents shifted from skepticism to support, driven by the demonstrated economic benefits. - The agent model highlighted the importance for partners of including women and youth, as they outperformed male colleagues in some areas. 2- Adaptation - After successful implementation in selected districts in Western and Southern provinces, partners plan to expand the model further within these regions and into the Eastern province. - Recruitment and retention strategies were refined to support scaling efforts, including adjustments to payment terms, delivery conditions, and continuous coaching. 3- Expansion - Market competition intensified as a rival company entered and attempted to recruit agents from the partner's network. - The number of insurance companies utilizing the partner's agent model grew from two to four, as two new competitors joined 4- Responding - Local authorities and governmental agencies (e.g., RAB) actively supported agents by funding their training and helping them secure employment - Linkage events facilitated collaboration among industry stakeholders, enabling financial institutions to engage with agents and farmers for different financial products like loans. - Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs) have consistently promoted livestock insurance for farmers. - Cross industry collaborations emerged, such as KLEAN NRG agents being paid via SPENN platforms or BIDEC using OX trucks for waste transportation. Interventions Specific Results 1) Trade Vertical. - 11,491 individuals (48% W&Y) have accessed to new or improved products and services through a network of 1,717 agents (50% Women & Youth) Incomes of 6,220 individuals (55% W&Y) have increased - Incomes of women increased by 123% from an average of RWF.23,703 to 52,940. Men's income increase reached RWF.62,161 (87% increase) 2) Access to Finance Vertical. - SPENN trained 400 agents (all W&Y) to support the companies expansion in the Western & Southern provinces. 3) Skills Vertical. - 1 intervention has been signed with KLEAN NRG, the intervention aims to piloting the improved availability of skilled technicians in rural areas to tap into solar panels installation opportunities, and building grounds for a more locally established network of service providers, and attracting more private sector actors to use the same network targeting the rural markets 4) Cross cutting themes 4.1. Regenerative Pathways. - 6,647 farmers received training in regenerative practices with a focus on compositing, contributing to a wider adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. - 1,786 metric tons of animal feed were delivered using electric transportation, reducing emissions and promoting sustainable logistics. - 6,506 farmers have access to insurance with 39% acquired by women and Youth. - 3,100 metric tons of organic fertilizer were supplied to Agrodealers, facilitating access to environmentally friendly inputs to farmers. - 3 market actors expanded access to regenerative products - 10,184 individuals demonstrated an increase in their resilience score using custom resilience index (55% women and youth) 4.2. Gender and Youth Inclusion. - 5 new market actors entering/contributing to inclusive distribution and aggregation networks. - 1,251 women and youth currently working as distribution agents. - 5,529 women and youth farmers accessing new products and or services. - 3,418 women and youth have increased their incomes total value of USD.846,788. - 346,841 per W&Y 2,717 jobs created or strengthened for W&Y. 762 shifted from on farm to off farm activities - Increase in resilience score 5,635 women and youth (using customer resilience index).
The overall goal of ReGenerate Rwanda is to sustainably increase incomes of poor households by generating employment and livelihoods opportunities for 30,000 women, youth, and men living in poverty in Western and Southern Rwanda. ReGenerate aims to identify, catalyse, and scale up systemic solutions to reduce poverty, advance gender equality, regenerate the environment, and increase resilience. The program will take a gender-transformative and regenerative business approach, prioritizing young and adult women as the primary target group (20,000 of the 30,000 beneficiaries) and promoting nature-positive economic opportunities that will benefit the target population and the environment and natural landscapes that sustain them. By the end of the program, ReGenerate aims to have catalysed systemic changes in the target market systems that lead to increased and diversified nature-positive incomes, increased household assets, increased off-farm employment, and improved gender norms and attitudes.
