The kick off activities have been implemented successfully. Through workshops and trainings, LYREC staff has strengthened their capacity and working methods. LYREC continue to support its member organizations and has successfully mobilized youth in advocacy processes for the respect of human rights, electoral reforms, and youth participation. Due to the political and administrative/financial challenges there has been a postponement of the activity to support the formalization of informal youth associations. The operationalization of the legal clinic to provide legal, juridical and health assistance to human rights activists has also been postponed, since the process of identifying and recruiting young volunteer lawyers has been taken longer than expected. Other activities are still pending to be implemented, which is why they still do not have any specific reported results. This concerns the support of setup of an operational network of young citizens and ambassadors on the SDGs and the Café citoyen to improve the quality of basic education. Some unexpected but positive results is LYREC's involvement in the advocacy process on youth peace and security that LYREC took part of, which resulted in the Governments adoption of the Priority Action Plan of Resolution 2250.
The overall objective of this programme is to strengthen youth organisations and increase their influence in the decision-making processes that affect their lives. The programme will contribute to the development of just societies characterised by youth participation and inclusion and for human rights. Therefore, by the end of the project, LSU will support the 300 organisations of the LYREC network in 5 selected provinces of Kinshasa, Central Kongo, Equateur, Kwilu, Central Kasai, possibly Maniema and Ituri, and expects to reach at least 6 million people through youth gathering activities, of which 50% are girls and 50% boys. LSU will conduct a data collection survey for LYREC through a diagnostic and needs assessment of LYREC for the development of capacity building plans and a roadmap for LYREC with input from the 5 province coordination; provision of sub-grants to LYREC.
