The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning of North Macedonia (MoEPP) have approached Sida with a jointly prepared proposal for partnership cooperation on Supporting North Macedonia’s EU Accession in the Environmental Field. The estimated project budget for three years is 20 725 000 SEK, covering the period from June 2024 to May 2027. The overall objective is to strengthen the organizational capacity of MoEPP to steer and respond to the demands of EU accession in relation to Chapter 27 of the EU acquis. The project has a strong focus on biodiversity and nature protection.

Result

1. Strengthened capacity for the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning of North Macedonia in coordination and management of EU approximation process of North Macedonia, facilitating negotiations of Chapter 27 and more effective intra- and inter-ministerial work. 2. Increased capacity and strengthened cooperation between policymakers and stakeholders at local, national, and regional level, facilitating a resilient management of biodiversity and climate adaptation.
