Sida and WBG launched the fund together in 2018 and the secretariat was established the same year. Immediately the Fund got up to speed since there already was a demand for short and catalytic interventions and the SDG Fund started to deliver on the set goals immediately. Even when the Covid pandemic posed major challenges on all development activities the Fund was quick and agile to adjust and deliver against new challenges and conditions. The Annual Report of 2024 highlights many of the achievements during 2023/24 where the SDG fund has contributed to the following results: 17 MUSD in additional financing through SDG Fund partners for project implementation, distributed over 50 activities; 400 partners convened for SDG Fund project implementation; The fund is operational in 73 countries; A global dataset covering 12 commonly used economic informality measures for 196 countries was created for the first time, for the period 1950-2018; Over 1,800 participants trained and benefited from gender-focused peer learning engagements across industries covering thematic areas such as entrepreneurship, childcare, leadership, and employment, and promoting respectful workplaces; 5000 employees benefited from improved workplace policies and practices as a result of evidence-based metrics developed for gender quality performance; 173,878 loans valued at 96.3 MUSD mobilized for women-led businesses and entrepreneurs; 858 women executives and professionals trained and linked to investment and networking opportunities; Facilitated 57 new business transactions and contributing to the creation of over 3000 new jobs, with nearly 70% of jobs created for women and nearly 20% for refugees; 595,000 micro loans valued at 646 MUSD disbursed representing 120,500 accounts; Mobilized 1.5 MUSD in additional financing to support green hydrogen certification systems and offshore wind energy; Facilitated 150 MUSD in Investment Project Financing to design Green Hydrogen Facility; Facilitated 232 MUSD across WBG lending operations to enable increased generation capacity, distribution, and financing of reliable electricity to urban centers through distributed photovoltaics; For every dollar disbursed, the Partnership Fund has mobilized roughly 2x that in additional financing from external partners totaling at least 21 MUSD as of end FY24; MoUs signed with the worlds leading financing partners with combined total assets of nearly $16 trillion.
Build and strengthen capacity and awareness among actors and institutions for implementing the SDGs; Stimulate the development of strategic analytical tools for solving SDG challenges; Promote multi-stakeholder partnerships, both internal within the Bank Group and with non-Bank Group stakeholders, recognizing that partnerships underpin all other objectives.
