Result
The following are the major results registered in Phase II of the ILDP project in Gambella (GPNRS). 1. Rural and Urban ILDPs completed: - 5 Rural and 7 Urban, comprehensive ILDPs - SESA appraised ILDPs - Albums of plan maps - More than 65 different livelihood project ideas - About bout 18 highly favored potential and feasible projects prioritized. 2. Capacity development - Local capacity enhanced to implement the ILDP - ILDP Implementation Regulatory Office (ILDP-IRO)established and capacitated; - Data management system established DMS: http://dms.hoarec.org - Web-based ILDP database developed http://ildpiro.org.et - Generic guide for land-based investment developed. - Government 10 yrs plan integrated with ILDP of the GPNRS - More than 300,000 ha of land illegally allocated has been assessed and transferred to the appropriate land use. 3. ILDP implementation manual and guides - Land use policy, - Strategic guides for mainstreaming ILDP with Government Strategic plan - Development Project designing and implementation guideline - Community participation and engagement guideline - Land-based investment guideline - Capacity development guideline, 4. Common Commodity Group (CCGs) - CCGs formed and capacitated - Generic bylaws for selected 7 commodities prepared and endorsed - CCGs legally instituted, licensed and ready to start business - CCG guidelines prepared. The earlier project implemented in the Central Rift Valley (CRV) region also registered some results. the following are the major ones: - Afforestation / Reforestation and protection of degraded critical catchments in the targeted landscape. - Developed carbon project on Jamaurji Mountain - Promoted Integrated Livelihoods diversification and women and youth economic empowerment. -Promote selected agroforestry trees and crops for socioeconomic and environmental benefits - Facilitate biodiversity and environmental conservation to promote local community tourism and environmental stewardship
The purpose of this intervention is to develop integrated land-use and development plan to address conflict over natural resources by engaging community, government and private sectors to promote holistic and an integrated land use and development master plan to be implemented by the government. Moreover the project in the CRV aim to contribute to sustainable economic development, through poverty reduction, biodiversity conservation and community empowerment in Jamma Urji Mountain and neighbouring landscape. The ILDP is designed with a purpose to develop a comprehensive road map to facilitate and guide land allocation based on its capacity and suitability to enhance livelihood of the community through improved access to land information and to minimize conflict over natural resources.
