The programme is a comprehensive multi-sectorial response to gender based violence (GBV). Under the programme multi-sectorial services have been provided to GBV survivors in 12 targeted governorates. During 2018 a total of 17 814 women, men, boys and girls were provided with psycological support (13868 women, 1291 men, 1179 girls and 276 boys). 6658 were provided medical support, 3114 were given legal support and 1003 women and girls were given cash assistance based on criteria developed for GBV survivors. The cash assistance is a support enabling survivors to travel from one district/governorate to another to access the required services. 791 women and children received life skills services, 123 accessed safe shelters. Four women shelters in Sanaa, Aden och Al Hudaydah and Ibb were supported under the programme where women and children received short term protection and support in emergency situations. Four more shelters are under construction in Sanaa, Al Hudaydah Amran and Aden to meet the increasing need. Also referral pathways to facilitate access to GBV response services across 48 districts have been expanded. 48 case managers have been recruited and trained. These are in charge of receiving GBV victims and making sure the cases receive the necessary interventions (safety, medical, psycho-social and legal). A national toll free hot line service has been established that provides immediate counselling, service information and assistance to GBV survivors. During 2018 186 cases were provided with psychological and legal support via the hot line service and 719 cases were referred to different support services. Activities to promote sustainable livelihood opportunities and financial education for women who have been subject to GBV to enable them to take control of their income and gain financial independence have been carried out. 750 women (17-27 years) have received life skills training (including psychological support) to empower them socially and help integrate them into the society. 500 of these have thereafter received livelihood and economic empowerment training. (This part of the programme was however delayed due to a delay in getting permits for implementation for CARE International. Communities have been engaged and empowered to change cultural norms against GBV. Through its implementing partner Yemen Women Union, 12 community committees and 48 men-to men networks have been formed in targeted districts. Members include influential personalities within the communities including sheiks, religious leaders, local governing councils, and education/health workers, youth and IDPs. The community committees and the men-to men networks implemented a series of 12 community dialogues discussing sensitive topics such as girls education, child marriage and the most prevalent forms of GBV in the villages.
