Result
UN Women contributed to the following overall results during 2022: - UN Women and its CSO partners made progress toward enhancing the protection architecture and referral mechanisms in Afghanistan. - UN Women facilitated spaces for Afghan women to advocate for their rights and ensure that women's rights and gender equality considerations feature in all responses from the international community to the peace, security and humanitarian issues facing Afghanistan. - Leveraged interlinkages across different programmatic areas to broadly advocate for UN Member States and UN system-wide planning, programming and reporting on GEWE through the UN Women normative and coordination role in the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) and the humanitarian cluster system, the Gender Theme Group (GTG) and the Afghanistan Coordination Group (ACG). - Strengthened UN Women sub-office structure across five provinces. - During 2022, UN Women Afghanistan supported over 30 of civil society partners to hold space for women's rights and run services to address the needs of women.
In line with the changed country context, UN Women is further pivoting its programming in Afghanistan to address women's humanitarian and basic needs, building on its foundational programming in the areas of Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action, Ending Violence Against Women, Women's Economic Empowerment, Women's Leadership and Participation, and coordination and normative work. The work of UN Women in Afghanistan remains guided by the United Nations Programming Principles, wherein the overarching pledge to leave no one behind is underpinned by commitment to humanitarian principles, human rights, gender equality and women's empowerment; sustainability and resilience; and accountability. Outcome 1.1: By the end of 2025, more people in Afghanistan, particularly the most marginalized, will be able to equitably access essential services that meet minimum quality standards. Outcome 1.2: By the end of 2025, more people in Afghanistan will benefit from an increasingly stable and inclusive economy, with greater equality of opportunities and more resilient livelihoods. Outcome 1.3: By the end of 2025, more people in Afghanistan can participate in an increasingly socially cohesive, gender equal, and inclusive society, where the rule of law and human rights are progressively upheld.
