OBJECTIVE 1: Improved cultural norms, practices and beliefs towards gender equity and equality. - NGOCC raised awareness about harmful societal attitudes, beliefs, and practices. Enhanced community knowledge on harmful traditional practices was achieved through radio programs and reached 1.2 million listeners Petauke, Nakonde, Mansa, Mumbwa, Solwezi and Rufunsa districts. - In Rufunsa, by-laws were enforced to end child marriages by traditional leaders. This resulted in the withdrawal of two girls from such marriages. - Training and capacity building related to dealing with gender-based violence has begun to yield results. An example was when community members reported a GBV case to Rufunsa police station involving a 44-year-old man who defiled a 14-year-old schoolgirl. The perpetrator was arrested and prosecuted and has been served with a 25-year jail sentence. OBJECTIVE 2: Improved policy/legal frameworks for women and girl's empowerment. - NGOCC advocated for increased women's participation in politics through legal reforms, leading to the development of a position paper on Mixed Member Proportional Representation (MMPR). This paper was used in various advocacy efforts and presented to key stakeholders, including the President of Zambia. Through the Electoral Review Technical Committee (ERTC), NGOCC proposed amendment to Article 47 and Article 68 in the Constitution for the electoral system to introduce Mixed Member Proportional Representation (MMPR). This proposal was adopted in the ERTC Report. Additionally, NGOCC enhanced the capacity of Gender Budgeting Interest Groups and local structures, empowering communities to engage in national budgeting processes and hold authorities accountable. The organization advocated for gender-responsive national budgeting, making submissions on tax and non-tax proposals for the 2025 National Budget, focusing on key social sectors and gender equity. OBJECTIVE 3: Improved resilience through women and girls' empowerment. - With the support of District Agricultural Officers from the Ministry of Agriculture, NGOCC enhanced community awareness and skills in climate-smart agriculture and conservation farming methods, benefiting 1,350 community members. This led to increased household incomes and improved food security as women adopted alternative livelihoods such as gardening and smart cooking practices. Additionally, NGOCC's efforts resulted in more women becoming landowners and contributing to household productivity. - Working with the Ministry of Community Development & Social Services, NGOCC also improved entrepreneurship skills among women, with 44 individuals from 20 Member Organisations receiving training in business development. Village banking initiatives proved effective in enhancing women's financial inclusion, with many women using these savings to meet household needs and invest in their businesses. Notably, 2,530 women acquired land in their own names, demonstrating a significant shift towards gender equality in land ownership.
To contribute to women's empowerment and gender equality in Zambia.
