Result
With a view to improve the access to information on export opportunities, standards and EU/UK quality requirements, more than 200 companies from both banks of the Nistru river (91 companies from the Transnistrian region) improved their knowledge related to the DCFTA and UK-Moldova SPTA opportunities and requirements in the following areas: certification, customs procedures and import-export operations and labelling requirements. The beneficiaries have been equipped with knowledge on best strategies for accessing the EU market, importance of implementing corporate social responsibility norms, trade intelligence, integration into the local and international supply chains, digitalization of business and online sales, etc. In the context on new realities imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project offered both information support and business development services for digitalization of the businesses and increase of companies' on-line presence. As a result of an online coaching programme, 70 participants (out of which 53 women), representing 30 enterprises (17-from left bank) have increased their capacities in product promotion and branding and effective online presence. Another 6 companies (out of which 5 form the left bank) received support to increase their visual identity. Additional 19 companies were selected in 2021 (18 from right bank, 1 left). These companies advanced in their export readiness and assessed competitiveness of their products and distribution approaches. Moreover, 6 companies have been assisted to prepare for the ISO certification through intensive programmes of consultancy and training support. At the same time, 28 companies (17 companies from the left bank; 19 are women-led businesses) increased their digital marketing literacy, 12 modules on digital marketing have been implemented, another 6 companies received consultancy in developing video presentation of their products and services. The project developed a study on access to finance procedures, aiming to explore financial instruments available to the business community from both banks, including those export related. The most important achievements of the project under the current component is the support in the creation of 120 new jobs in 2020/maintained in 2021, out of which 86 for women, 71 for representative of vulnerable groups and for 29 migrants and on both banks and 37 new partnerships and contracts were signed. Among the most important achievements under the component `Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises across the Nistru river, in particular those led by women and benefitting vulnerable groups, are enabled to produce more competitive products` were 21 start-ups (13 in Transnistrian region, 14 women-led) supported to launch a start-up or to improve capacities of young existing company in agri-food, tourism, textile, manufacturing of wood products, installation of charging stations for electric vehicles, processing of metal, handmade eco-friendly craft products, etc. Additionally, 2 projects aiming at promoting the access to STEM education of women and girls from the left bank of the Nistru river.
The development objective of the intervention is to improve the livelihood for people in the Transnistria region, in particular of the most vulnerable groups, generating job opportunities through strengthening the capacity and growth opportunities for micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises. The objective of the project is aligned to the 'Results Strategy for Sweden's Reform Cooperation with Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans and Turkey' in Moldova: Area 1: 'Increased economic integration with the EU and development of market economy'; Area 2: 'Strengthened democracy, greater respect for human rights and a more fully developed state under the rule of law'. The project objective is also linked to the UNDAF objectives for the cooperation with Moldova (Intended Outcome no 2 of the UNDAF/Country programme 2018-2022): The people in Moldova, in particular the most vulnerable, have access to enhanced livelihood opportunities, decent work and productive employment generated by sustainable, inclusive and equitable economic growth. The three main expected outputs are: (1) Improved cross-river dialogue and increased understanding of the opportunities provided through the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA); (2) Increased export activities by small and medium enterprises in the Transnistria region; (3) Micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises across the River Nistru, are enabled to produce competitive products. In particular enterprises led by women and that are providing opportunities for vulnerable people. Note: 1) The project's results framework uses the UNDP terminology, hence it states the development and project objectives as 'Intended Outcome' and 'Expected Outputs'.
