Result
A few results may be highlighted: Bottom-up activities: - Two separate 30-hour curricula developed for Israeli schools and 40 lesson plans developed for Palestinian and Jordanian teachers 648 trained teachers nationally from all three countries to implement these curricula in lessons in the classroom; - 157 Jordanian, Palestinian and Israeli teachers convened for regional training programs 9,705 students and young people engaged in NPTs around shared regional water issues A tailored online education platform developed for each national context - 143 guest lectures at schools, 39 youth summit events, and 263 student projects generating awareness in local communities Direct work with 161 youth and 192 young professionals through the Water Trustees and Water Diplomats ToT program programs, respectively; as well as 41 Green Social Entrepreneurs as part of the 2020-2021 pilot program. Top-down activities: - 555 meetings held with key stakeholders in Jordan, Palestine and Israel; 75 site visits, 35 delegations, and 4 councils 9 events arranged for investors, - 18 roundtables to promote climate initiatives, and 5 VIP Champion events Some two dozen key decision-makers and policy actors engaged around WEN- and JV-related initiatives as a part of the Green-Blue Deal to achieve region-wide climate resilience and water security. - Several dozen business investors engaged in 13 Water Energy Nexus- and Joint Venture-related business cases, of whom 2 in Jordan and 2 in Palestine are currently on board as investor. As it relates to the ShaRED sea programme The project engaged young professionals in Aqaba and Eilat and teachers in Aqaba. The project further engages community influencers and women groups. The second phase of the programmed has focused on implementing target activities to mitigate plastic waste in the Gulf of Aqaba, with the Aqaba team aimed for phasing out plastic bags from 11 bakeries by March 2023 and for the Eilat team to establish value chains for phasing out single use plastics in the restaurants in Eilat. Additional activities included a Regional clean up - Red Sea diving festival in November 2022 and contribution to COP27, both virtually in a Red Sea webinar and an event in the COP27 Marine Pavilion.
The overall objective of the project is to enhance water, energy and food security in Jordan, Palestine and Israel through regional cooperation. The project has two main specific objectives which will contribute to the overall objective, namely: A. Advance major financial, political and administrative commitments needed to set the stage for PPP/ private sector investments in water, energy and food security projects by: The primary goal for the ShaRED Sea proposal is to: Reduce harm to marine life and biodiversity by preventing waste, particularly plastic waste, from reaching the Red Sea and would fully replace the amendment signed on December 6, 2018.
