Result
Results Achieved (2023/2024) 1. Sustainable Fisheries: The Grandcess Fishing Cooperative maintained a 100% loan repayment rate, creating a revolving fund supporting 45 women. Micro-loans empowered 506 women to expand businesses and enhance livelihoods. 2. Institutional Capacity Building: A University of Liberia program supported by the BOP trained 30 professionals in mangrove restoration. The Blue Oceans Internship provided hands-on conservation training for four young professionals in ocean governance. 3. Blue Economy: The National Blue Economy Secretariat was established with LiMA and EPA to promote sustainable ocean governance. A 20252030 strategy, developed with Conservation International, advances fisheries, eco-tourism, marine biotech, governance, and capacity building. 4. Environmental & Social Management: Gender-responsive safeguard plans were developed, and 33 participants from 17 CSOs received organizational and advocacy training. 5. Climate Change: The Global Mangrove Alliance Chapter, launched in 2024, unites six government agencies and 16 NGOs/CSOs to focus on mangrove protection. NASA, through CI and BOP, trained 21 GIS technicians in geospatial analysis for environmental monitoring.
Conservation International main goal of supporting A Green/Blue Economy: Liberia Ocean Program is to promote sustainable management of Liberia’s coastal and marine ecosystems by achieving the following objectives and outcomes: Objective 1: Enhanced science-based understanding of drivers impacting coastal and marine ecosystem health and service. Outcome 1 Coastal and marine science-based baseline data and information generated to inform blue ocean programming and decision making. Objective 2. Enhanced circular economy approaches addressing marine pollution Outcome 2 Reduced influx of plastics to coastal and marine waters. Objective 3: Effective governance and integrated management of coastal and marine ecosystems Outcome 3.1 Strategic plan for establishment of National and/or Transboundary Integrated Coastal and MPA(s) developed. Outcome 3.2 Multi-stakeholder Blue Oceans Strategy and Action Plan developed. Outcome 3.3 Effective implementation, coordination, and management of the BOP. Outcome 3.4 Increased community stewardship in coastal and marine conservation. Outcome 3.5 Effective knowledge management for the BOP. Outcome 3.6 Improved capacity on coastal and marine conservation. Objective 4. Enhanced education and outreach /public awareness Outcome 4. Increased community knowledge and participation in coastal and marine stewardship activities.
