Result
The Guarantee has contributed to finaning of 530 000 connections and 277 000 t CO2 reduction The Guarantee is thus close to reaching initial targets. The Covid- window where, as a response to deceased and frozen financing during Covid, the size of the guarantee was increased and risk sharing temporarily increased, appears to have succeded in mobilizing financing during Covid.
The overall objective of the intervention is to expand the off-grid energy market in selected African countries through the provision of commercial debts, partly guaranteed by Sida. The target is to increase the production and access to renewable energy, that will spur electrification in households and among SME, particularly in the service and agricultural sector, creating new jobs. SunFunder will set up and manage a $85m Solar Energy Transformation (SET) Fund which is expected to have the following results over the lifetimes of the systems financed:- Total tons of CO2 eq mitigated 1,520,000 tCO2e, i.e. 479,600 tCO2e/yr- Three million people / 600,000 households with improved energy access. Sida's intervention is expected to mobilise maximum of 30 MUSD in private capital, that will be used in two revolving funds at a total value of 178 MUSD.
