OHCHR Sudan worked to ensure that the human rights situation in Sudan remained on the global agenda through the High Commissioners advocacy and in the Human Rights Council. Reporting to the General Assembly and the Security Council, through various reports via the UN Secretariat, was also ensured. Despite the challenges working in Sudan, OHCHR has continued to amplify civil society voices by strengthening engagement and interacting with them through workshops, meetings, forums and other avenues to listen to their views and integrate them in OHCHR reports and advocacy. Overall results were reported to Sida on 25 September 2024. The reporting included detailed activities achieved which contributed to the results of the 5 goals as listed below. The detailed reporting can be found in dox: 24/000287-60 The funding from Sweden has been crucial in consolidating the OHCHR office in Sudan. More specifically, the Swedish contribution was used to (1) Support early warning, prevention, and protection of human rights in situations o through activities such as human rights monitoring, documentation, and reporting. It also involved advocating on behalf of victims and providing capacity building to selected state institutions (technical level), civil society, and UN partners; (2) Protect and expanding civic space by promoting meaningful participation in its civil society network; (3) Support the rule of law and accountability for human rights violations, with a particular focus on transitional justice. This also involved empowering civil society to raise their voices on matters of accountability; (4) Integrate human rights in sustainable development initiatives through technical support to authorities, before the war broke out, support national civil society and the UN country Team (UNCT) to mainstream huma n rights and (5) Strengthen the implementation of human rights mechanisms' outcomes, including the recommendations of UN treaty bodies, Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council (HRC), and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). OHCHRs support was instrumental into ensuring a participatory UPR review involving the voices of a wide range of actors. Also, with the support of the Office, the National Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism (NMRF) developed its first-ever human rights action plan, incorporating a broad set of human rights indicators to operationalize the UPR recommendations from the 3rd review cycle. Since the beginning of the conflict in April, the OHCHR office in Sudan has shifted its focus on remote monitoring and reporting on the human rights situation and violations of international humanitarian and human rights law, as well as on supporting civil society organizations in Sudan. In addition, the Office has carried out monitoring missions in neighbouring countries to gather first-hand information from refugees on abuses and violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.
