Results in 2023 Programming Area 1 - Youth Focused Knowledge & Information Sharing SAYWHAT reported a reach of more than one million young people which is 93.08% of their annual reach. Various channels were used in an effort to reach young people with positive health seeking behaviour. These include social media, national radio programs, and debate and quiz competitions. These platforms played a crucial role in addressing SRH information gaps. SAYWHAT launched a Smart Learners Hub, an online platform that is providing free courses on Sexual Reproductive Health to young people. By end of 2023 the Hub had enrolled 388 young people, with 177 completing all modules and 211 currently in progress. The young people are awarded certificates upon passing a course. The hub will also be used to assess the prominent knowledge gaps among the young people. Three surveys were conducted to assess the benchmarked information gaps and the surveys showed that 93.79% of young people reported an improvement in their knowledge of SRH issues. However, the young people recommended more radio sessions and organizing additional sessions with external facilitators who are experts in different areas of SRH. Programming Area 2 Health and Child Protection Services The contribution is bridging the gap between the service providers, decision makers and young people. SAYWHAT assisted 9,355 students, including screenings for sexually transmitted infections, HIV testing, family planning, and information. Furthermore, 163,907 condoms were distributed to promote safer sexual practices. The Call Centre received 10,848 calls, with a recorded total of 2,904 cases, highlighting the demand for information and support. SAYWHAT actively participated in tackling Drug and Substance Abuse (DSA) through training sessions for students, young people, and college health staff. In 2023, 688 students and 30 college nurses and counsellors from 20 institutions were trained in DSA, strengthening the commitment of tertiary institutions to combat substance abuse among students. Programming Area 3 Advocacy and Campaigning Young Activists developed a position paper to parliament on the age of consent in Zimbabwe. This was in response to a perceived gap on service access following the increase of age of consent to sex and the requirement of minors to have parental\guardian consent when seeking medical services. SAYWHAT is providing a platform for young people to interface with law makers. SAYWHAT produced 28 press statements and two observer newsletters in 2023. The publications echoed the voices of the young people on various sexual and reproductive health themes.
