RESULTS 2023: Component 1 Statistical products Outcome 1.1: Improved range and quality of statistical products, including gender statistics, the Statistical Business Register, and geospatial statistics. • Development of Household Satellite Accounts (HSA) started in 2023. The new statistics will have a positive impact on the Kenyan society in several areas, for example it will support gender equity by making visible the unpaid household work that is mostly done by women. Also, with the HSA as a supplement to Kenyan national accounts a more complete picture of the countrys economy is given. • Support to environmental statistics started up again in 2023 with support to a compendium on environmental statistics. The compendium is produced by KNBS together with other producers from the national statistical system included in the Technical Working Group (TWG) on environmental statistics. Component 2 Management Outcome 2.2: Management use performance data to continuously assess KNBSs work and improve the utilization of resources. • The monitoring framework underwent review and simplification, resulting in the development of a new report on a quarterly and annual basis. This report will be regularly presented to top management to enable them to monitor performance regarding the quality aspects of timeliness and punctuality in KNBS statistics. Component 3 Quality assurance Outcome 3.1: Statistics are produced using standardised processes. • KNBS has completed the documentation of all statistics production processes according to the GSBPM model (Generic Statistical Business Process Model) during 2023. These documentations will provide support to KNBS internal production and to other users within the NSS going forward. Outcome 3.2: Statistics are sufficiently documented. • The work with quality reports has now been anchored at KNBS to such an extent that they now form an important part of the new 5year strategy. The plan at KNBS is to describe to users the quality in all statistical products within the next few years. Component 4 Information and communication technology Outcome 4.1: Statistics production is done efficiently and securely • KNBS has initiated the development of a five-year ICT strategy. This process requires careful alignment with KNBS' overarching five-year strategy. Component 5 The Kenya National Statistical System (NSS) Outcome 5.1: KNBS supports and coordinates the Sector Statistics, i.e., the NSSs data producers • The draft mapping of the national statistical system started, and KNBS developed draft Terms of Reference (ToR) for coordination mechanisms like the National Coordination Committee (NCC), sector statistics committees, and technical working groups. However, more work is needed to fully implement these ToR and guide the activities of the respectiv • Twenty staff from KNBS, county governments, and statistical sectors underwent training in basic statistics (STAC). Additionally, six trainers from KNBS commenced the training of trainers program. • The training center established at KNBS headquarters has been used during the year for missions, different trainings, such as the STAC, workshops and development work. Outcome 5.2: KNBS provides guidelines and standards to the Sectors • Principles of official statistics was drafted but not officially adopted. Young Statisticians Program, which will train eight people per year over the fiveyear program for employment at KNBS. • A new class within the Young Statisticians Program started in 2023. The program will be evaluated in 2024.
Development objective: Policy makers in the Kenyan society base their decisions on unbiased, reliable and quality statistics that helps them to design policies that contribute to creating better living conditions for the people of Kenya. Although the project proposal does not says so, this also means that citizens are better informed and can better hold governments accountable. Project objective: Increased access to statistics that meet user needs. This of course implies improved production too. Component 2 - Management Outcome 2.1: Leadership motivates and supports the staff at KNBS to successfully adopt change in order to achieve the organisation's goals (defined in KNBS’s strategy). Outcome 2.2: Management use performance data to continuously assess KNBS’s work and improve the utilization of resources. Component 3 - Quality assurance Outcome 3.1: Statistics are produced using standardised processes. Outcome 3.2: Statistics are sufficiently documented. Component 4 - Information and communication technology Outcome 4.1: Statistics production is done efficiently and securely Outcome 4.2: Efficient tools are used for statistics production and dissemination Component 5 - The Kenya National Statistical System (NSS) Outcome 5.1: KNBS supports and coordinates the “Sector Statistics”, i.e., the NSS’s data producers Outcome 5.2: KNBS provides guidelines and standards to the Sectors Young Statisticians Program, which will train eight people per year over the five-year program for employment at KNBS.
