Diakonia has applied to Sida for funding of 1 090 000 SEK to carry out the EU-project "Zambia EU Election Support for Transparency and Accountability 2021" during 2021.
The overall objective is:
"To contribute towards enhancement of the credibility and acceptance of 2021 general election results in Zambia."
Specific objectives:
1. "Increased domestic electoral observation and voter’s turnout in 2021 general elections."
2. "Enhanced transparency and accountability in the voting, counting and results management – Parallel Vote Tabulation."
3. "Government takes into account recommendations from election monitoring and observation groups made on the 2021 elections."
4. "Improved capacity of CCMG network members for effective management, coordination, and implementation of its mandate."
This project seeks to enhance the capacity of Zambian civil society actors in holding government accountable in the delivery of the 2021 general elections. The project will mobilize and capacity build election monitors (men, women, and youth) from local civil society organizations, to monitor various electoral processes, mobilize and facilitate dialogue around the 2021 general elections, monitor elections and publicize election information and Parallel Vote Tabulation results.
The key stakeholders are the four faith-based civil society organizations working under the Christian Churches Monitoring Group coalition (CCMG). The CCMG comprises of Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) through Caritas Zambia (co-applicant), Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) and Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ). Diakonia has the overall responsibility of the implementation and coordination of the project.
The contribution has the EU Commission reference number FED/2020/420-132. The contribution's total budget is 1 100 000 EUR, which corresponds to approximately 11 144 930 SEK. The requested support from Sida is 1 090 000 SEK, which corresponds to 10% of the total budget.
